NCEL 2009/10 Match Review #51
25th February, 2010
Brighouse Town?s eighth straight win has propelled them to the top of KoolSport NCEL Division One for the first time.
They came from behind in the last five minutes at home to beat visitors Hemsworth Miners Welfare, 3-2, to leapfrog above Leeds Carnegie and AFC Emley.
Wayne Harratt and Lee Dawson had seemingly put the away side on the road to victory but Darryl Leach struck on 85 minutes and Lee Burgess quickly added his second to mark an amazing comeback.
Elsewhere, Bottesford Town climbed to ninth with a 2-0 home victory over Yorkshire Amateur, Paul Chatterton and James Taylor with their goals in the second half.
Four more teams have joined AFC Emley in the last eight of the League Cup with the biggest surprise being Grimsby Borough's 5-0 win at home to Premier Division highfliers, Selby Town.
Hosts Pickering Town beat Staveley Miners Welfare 4-2 but needed two goals in the last ten minutes to progress, firstly a Tom Adams penalty and then Liam Salt's second of the evening in injury time.
A second half double from Pontefract Collieries saw them through 2-0 at home to Teversal whilst Parkgate were 4-2 winners at Shirebrook Town.
Five of the goals came in the opening period which the away side just edged thanks to Nathan Swindell's 43rd minute strike.
Andrew Gascoigne made sure of the victory with a penalty midway through the second half.
And, in the Premier Division, fifth-placed Scarborough Athletic beat next-to-bottom Lincoln Moorlands Railway 2-1 at Queensgate.
Ryan Blott had put the hosts ahead on twelve minutes before Rob Northern's spot kick with two minutes remaining ensured the three points but not before Lee Beesley gave Moorlands a consolation with an injury time penalty.
