NCEL 2009/10 Match Review #52
28th February, 2010
Despite no game at Nostell Miners Welfare due to a waterlogged pitch, Bridlington Town stay six points clear at the top of the KoolSport NCEL Premier Division after Saturday?s action.
That's because their closest rivals, Rainworth Miners Welfare, were thrashed 5-1 at home by in-form Thackley.
Matthew Mathers struck a hat-trick whilst Rob Morgan and Dean Walters also found the net for the visitors whilst Craig Mitchell's 66th-minute strike was the only piece of joy for Rudy Funk's side.
Thackley move to within two points of third placed Armthorpe Welfare who also did not play.
Scarborough Athletic, who are fifth, lost some ground as they were beaten 3-1 by visitors Parkgate.
Jamie Jones and Andrew Gascoigne had the Rotherham side two-up by the break, Ryan Blott pulled one back for the hosts on 52 minutes but Nathan Swindells got the vital third for the away side midway through the second period.
Arnold Town moved up to eighth with a 3-0 win at Maltby Main, Tony Law with a brace - one from the spot - and Nick Hall with the third.
Shirebrook Town picked up three vital points in their survival bid as they won 2-1 at bottom side, Brodsworth Welfare.
Darren Bettison and Jay Whalley gave them a two goal cushion in the first half and held on despite a late consolation from Andy Robson.
Shirebrook, who remain eighteenth, are now six points clear of Lincoln Moorlands Railway in the bottom two but have played four games more.
Christopher Wood was the hat-trick hero for Hallam as they won 4-0 at home to Hall Road Rangers whilst Andy Philp's goal eight minutes from time earned Liversedge a dramatic 3-2 victory over visitors Dinnington Town.
And, Winterton Rangers played out a 0-0 draw at home to Pickering Town having been reduced to ten men by the dismissal of Danny Frost on the half hour.
The top two in Division One extended the gap between themselves and the rest as the promotion race continues to gather momentum.
Leaders Brighouse Town earned a vital 3-0 win over third-placed visitors AFC Emley to move six points clear of them thanks to a 43rd minute Danny Toronczak opener added to in the second period by Nathan Carman and Darryl Leach.
Second placed Leeds Carnegie ran riot at home to Appleby Frodingham as a Chibuzor Chilaka hat-trick, doubles from Andy Cooper and Kyle Hawthorne and a strike from Matt Chilton saw them romp to an 8-0 victory.
Tadcaster Albion climb to fourth after Terry Taylor's 38th-minute goal earned them a 1-0 win at home to the side they go over, Staveley Miners Welfare.
And, they are an outside bet for promotion as they have games in hand on all the sides above them.
Eccleshill United return to the bottom of the table after their 2-1 defeat at Rossington Main, replacing Worsbrough Bridge Athletic who claimed a goalless draw at Glasshoughton Welfare.
And, a debut for former England international Chris Waddle was not enough for Teversal as they went down 3-1 at home to Barton Town Old Boys.
All the goals came in the first half with Luke Fisher's tenth-minute own goal giving Barton the lead and, after Danny Plumbe had levelled the scores, Lee Moulds and Ryan Morton ensured the win that moves the visitors up to eighth.
