Baris NCEL Review - Season 2011/12 #14
10th November, 2011
Fourth-placed Scarborough Athletic are now four points away from the top of the Baris NCEL Premier Division after they picked up a draw on their travels in midweek.
Nathan Swindells gave hosts Parkgate an opening minute lead but the Seadogs quickly levelled through Patrick Miller and, at that point, it was thought that there would be a glut of goals.
Amazingly, it remained 1-1 in front of the biggest midweek crowd of 252, a result that sees Parkgate drop one place to eighth.
They were overtaken by Thackley who won 2-1 at home to Hall Road Rangers, Rob Morgan and Nicky Matthews scoring in a minute just after Mark Griffin had given the visitors the lead on the hour mark.
Armthorpe Welfare came from 2-0 down after 24 minutes to win 5-2 at home to Liversedge.
Nathan Cartman and Darryl Leach had seemingly put the away side on the way to victory but James Walker's first-half injury time strike put the hosts back in it.
However, Welfare had to wait until the last seventeen minutes to perform a remarkable turnaround.
David Buck levelled before Sam Colbear put the home side ahead for the first time and Henry Sibenge's late double confirmed the win that moves them up into tenth.
Worksop Parramore went top of Division One after they were held to a 1-1 draw at home to Louth Town, Lee Thompson's opener cancelled out by Steve Norton for the visitors.
Parramore are now one of three teams on 33 points in what promises to be one of the most closely fought Division One title challenges for many seasons.
Fifth-placed Pontefract Collieries are just three points behind after their 5-1 win at Teversal, Greig McGrory with a double to help them to the comfortable victory.
And, next-to-bottom Askern Villa are now seven points clear of basement side Appleby Frodingham after their 3-1 victory at Bottesford Town.
Elsewhere, it was county cup action with most of the ties taking place in the Second Round of the Sheffield & Hallamshire Senior Cup.
AFC Emley and Dinnington Town bowed out to higher league opposition, at home to Stocksbridge Park Steels and away to Frickley Athletic, respectively.
Handsworth came from behind to beat visitors Houghton Main, 2-1, with Ryan Johnson getting the winner with fourteen minutes remaining.
The other two ties were all Baris NCEL affairs with Hemsworth Miners Welfare going through 5-0 at home to Rossington Main with help from a Ryan Pleasants brace whilst Staveley Miners Welfare were 2-1 winners over Maltby Main at Inkersall Road.
David Hartas and Steve Hart struck either side of half-time to give Pickering Town a 2-1 win against Scarborough Town in the Second Round of the North Riding Senior Cup whilst, in the Lincolnshire Senior Trophy Quarter-Finals, Appleby Frodingham won 5-3 on penalties against Winterton Rangers after the match finished 1-1.
And, hat-tricks from Tom Fleming and Darren Clough helped Bridlington Town to a 9-1 home win over Chalk Lane in the East Riding Senior Cup Second Round.
