Baris NCEL Review - Season 2011/12 #26

28th December, 2011

Retford United maintained their four point lead at the top of the Baris NCEL Premier Division with a convincing 3-0 victory at strugglers Lincoln Moorlands Railway on 'Derby Day' Boxing Day.

Warren Hatfield struck twice, once in each half, whilst Adam Scott also got on the scoresheet on a comfortable afternoon for the Badgers.

Second placed Tadcaster Albion kept on their coat tails as they had an even more impressive win, 4-0 at home to Hall Road Rangers.

Carl Stewart and Steven Jeff gave them a two-goal cushion before the interval, Stewart then netted his second on 56 minutes and George Bissett added their fourth in injury time.

A further point behind are Bridlington Town who were 3-1 winners over Scarborough Athletic at the Neil Hudgell Law Stadium.

The landlords were convincing victors over their tenants in front of a season best crowd of 802 with Craig Hogg scoring twice and Ashley Allanson also finding the net before the Seasiders were reduced to ten men with a quarter-of-an-hour remaining.

Substitute Stuart Rice was sent off just sixty seconds into his debut for a challenge on Paddy Miller and Scarborough used their numerical advantage to get a consolation through Tony Hackworth late on.

The win means Bridlington are now four points clear of Scarborough who are in fourth.

Parkgate closed the gap on the top four as goals from Christopher Wood and Liam Davis earned them a 2-0 home victory over Maltby Main.

But, the other two top seven sides, Winterton Rangers and Staveley Miners Welfare, both dropped points.

Liam Wilkin put Rangers ahead at Barton Town Old Boys but a Richard Medcalf equaliser in stoppage time denied them all three points.

And, Staveley were subjected to a whirlwind start by hosts Armthorpe Welfare who struck three times in the opening 26 minutes through Leo Fortune-West, James Walker and Craig Morley.

Andrew Fox pulled one back before half-time but it stayed 3-1 in favour of eleventh placed Armthorpe.

Selby Town joined Lincoln Moorlands and Maltby in making it an afternoon to forget for the bottom three as the basement side were beaten 3-0 at Pickering Town.

Braces each for Tom Matthews and Luke Gibson helped Brighouse Town to a 5-2 win at Liversedge whilst Luke Smithson's 28th minute strike separated the sides as Arnold Town beat hosts Long Eaton United, 1-0.

And, early strikes from James Eyles and Graham Marchant saw Nostell Miners Welfare pick up three points on their travels with a 2-1 victory at Thackley.

In Division One, Anil Singh's stoppage time winner saw leaders Albion Sports extend their gap at the top to two points with a 3-2 victory at home to Eccleshill United.

It looked as though the visitors had snatched a point when Jermaine Springer had levelled on 89 minutes but it was Sports who would have the final say.

Second and third met at the Beechnut Lane Stadium with Glasshoughton Welfare making the three mile trip to Pontefract Collieries.

Paul Sykes' strike just after the hour mark seemed to have ensured a 2-1 win for the visitors but Dean Twibey popped up two minutes from time to ensure the spoils were shared.

Hemsworth Miners Welfare missed out on an opportunity to move up into the top four as they went down 3-2 at AFC Emley.

There were 1-1 draws for Yorkshire Amateur at Hallam and Dinnington Town at Shirebrook Town whilst Lee Holmes' early goal for Rossington Main was enough for the hosts in a 1-0 victory over Askern Villa.

Dominic Stones scored on 89 minutes to give Bottesford Town a 2-1 win at home to bottom side Appleby Frodingham whilst, in the one Tuesday night game, Louth Town left it even later to beat hosts Grimsby Borough by the same scoreline.

Jamie Coulson netted in injury time to keep Louth in fourteenth spot whilst Grimsby Borough remain in the bottom three.
