Baris NCEL Review - Season 2011/12 #27

3rd January, 2012

Retford United's lead at the top of the Baris NCEL Premier Division was cut to two points as the first games of 2012 took place on Monday afternoon.

The Badgers were held to a 1-1 draw at home to Parkgate who played most of the game with ten men after Liam Davis was sent off.

Carl Haslam then put Retford ahead but the visitors equalised with four minutes remaining, courtesy of a long-range free-kick from Joe Leesley.

A Jamie Hopcutt hat-trick saw second-placed Tadcaster Albion win 3-0 at Nostell Miners Welfare to close the gap.

Winterton Rangers moved up into the top four as Craig Fisher's fourteenth-minute strike earned them a 1-0 home victory over Barton Town Old Boys.

Also climbing into the top six were Parkgate, who are now fifth, and Staveley Miners Welfare who won 4-0 at home to Long Eaton United.

Joe Thornton and Simon Barraclough struck in the opening period and Andrew Fox and Aymen Tahar converted after the break for Billy Fox's side.

Bottom side Selby Town's misery continued into the New Year with a 2-1 home defeat to Liversedge, Daniel Cooper netting the winner for the visitors in injury time.

And, they are now five points adrift of Maltby Main who, courtesy of a Sam Foulds hat-trick, were 4-1 winners at home to Armthorpe Welfare.

Liam Salt struck twice in Pickering Town's 5-2 victory over Hall Road Rangers whilst Shane Hamilton and Tom Matthews netted in the second period for Brighouse Town in their 2-0 home win over Thackley.

Arnold Town's home clash with Lincoln Moorlands Railway was called off after heavy rain had made the Eagle Valley surface unplayable.

Pontefract Collieries moved above Albion Sports, whose game at Eccleshill United was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch, to the top of Division One with a 3-2 win at Glasshoughton Welfare.

Jack Nodder had put the hosts ahead on ten minutes but the Colls were 3-1 up by the interval, thanks to a Liam Ormsby penalty and then goals from Scott McGrory and Greig McGrory.

Paul Sykes pulled one back for third-placed Glasshoughton but the bragging rights went to the away side.

Handsworth are up into fourth after David Cockerill's first half penalty and a second period strike from Sam Smith saw them win 2-0 at Hallam.

They go above Worksop Parramore who went down 1-0 at Dinnington Town, Matthew Smith with the vital goal midway through the second half.

And, Rossington Main now complete the top six as a first-half brace from Jordan Hatton helped them to a 3-1 win at Appleby Frodingham.

Steve Norton scored four of Louth Town's goals in their 5-0 home win over Grimsby Borough, a match that was marred by a broken leg to Louth's Jamie Rowbotham - the second time he's suffered a fracture in eighteen months.

Shirebrook Town were 1-0 winners at Teversal whilst Bottesford Town were also victorious on their travels, beating Askern Villa 2-0, and Yorkshire Amateur and AFC Emley picked up a point each in a 1-1 draw.

And, in friendly action, Hemsworth Miners Welfare won 3-1 at home to Hall Green United.
