Baris NCEL Review - Season 2011/12 #59
18th May, 2012
Thackley and Bridlington Town picked up the final two pieces of silverware on offer at the end of another dramatic Baris Northern Counties East League season.
Thackley were 3-1 winners over Shirebrook Town in the League Cup Final that was played at Parkgate FC on Bank Holiday Monday.
Dempsey Smith put them ahead after twelve minutes before Liam Pride levelled the scores on the half-hour mark.
Matt Hall restored Thackley's advantage before the interval and Smith made sure of the victory in second-half injury time.
It was Shirebrook's second Cup Final disappointment this season after their defeat to Grimsby Borough in the Wilkinson Sword Trophy.
For Thackley, though, it was a day of massive celebration as they claimed their first ever trophy in their thirty years in the NCEL.
Bridlington Town came from two goals down to Hall Road Rangers Reserves to storm to a 9-2 victory in the East Riding Senior Cup Final on the following Wednesday.
Michael Gawthorpe and Steve Gawthorpe had given Rangers an excellent start before Ashley Allanson pulled one back before the interval.
The Seasiders then ran riot in the second period with Josh Greening scoring five goals whilst Billy Logan, Craig Palmer and Tom Fleming also found the net at the KC Stadium.
The final three Premier Division matches were played over the Bank Holiday weekend with wins for Tadcaster Albion, Arnold Town and Staveley Miners Welfare.
A Simon Barraclough hat-trick helped to earn Staveley a 4-1 win at Nostell Miners Welfare on the Monday, 72 hours after they had fallen to a 3-1 defeat at Tadcaster, to leave the Inkersall Road side in fifth spot.
And, Arnold claimed ninth place after they were 3-2 home winners over Winterton Rangers with Ryan Whitehurst scoring a brace for the Eagles.
