Toolstation NCEL Match Review 2015/16 #69
15th April, 2016
Congratulations to Hemsworth Miners Welfare who have been crowned Toolstation NCEL Division One champions.
Lincoln Moorlands Railway's resignation from the league means that their results have been expunged from the competition, leaving Hemsworth with an unassailable fourteen point lead over second placed AFC Mansfield who have four games left to play.
Meanwhile, the chase for the Premier Division title continues to be a close one with Handsworth Parramore returning to the summit in midweek as two late goals from Jon Froggatt - one in stoppage time - saw them come from behind to win 2-1 at Maltby Main who had taken the lead midway through the first half with a Lewis Bemrose penalty.
Worksop Town continue to challenge the leaders as an Andre Johnson hat-trick and a Conor Higginson goal ensured a 4-1 win at next-to-bottom Liversedge, moving the Tigers up to fourth spot and five points behind Handsworth with four games to play.
Armthorpe Welfare moved a further point away from the relegation zone with a 1-1 draw at Barton Town Old Boys, Stuart Preston netting their equaliser after Gareth Owen had put the hosts ahead, and they are now three points clear of the bottom three in seventeenth.
AFC Mansfield climbed back into the second automatic promotion spot in Division One with a 4-1 win at Glasshoughton Welfare, Craig Mitchell, Jason White, Jake Park and Dean Rick with the Bulls goals before there was a late consolation from Leon Cusworth for the home side.
Yorkshire Amateur took maximum six points from the two games they played in midweek as Joel Hughes struck twice in a 4-1 home win over Selby Town on Tuesday and then Harrison Blakey's 88th minute strike earned a 2-1 triumph at Dronfield Town on Thursday.
Selby also took part in two matches, winning 3-0 against Hull United on Thursday, Daniel Gray, Danny Bunch and Chris Jackson with their goals in the second period.
Another side with a busy midweek was Hall Road Rangers who picked up a point in a 1-1 home draw with Knaresborough Town on Tuesday before going down 5-2 at home to Westella VIP on Thursday.
The other Division One games saw Grimsby Borough prevail 5-3 over visitors Teversal with Jason Flint grabbing a brace for the hosts whilst fifth-placed Penistone Church are virtually guaranteed a play-off spot with their 1-1 draw at Eccleshill United, Daniel Joynes' 11th minute goal for Penistone cancelled out in the second half by Adam Turner.
Tadcaster Albion became the second side to reach the League Cup semi-finals as a Carl Stewart hat-trick saw them take a 3-1 victory at Knaresborough on Thursday whilst there were two fourth round matches in midweek.
Thackley went through to the last eight with a 5-1 home win over Glasshoughton whilst Cleehthorpes Town progressed by beating visitors Staveley Miners Welfare, 4-3, in an entertaining game which saw two goals each for Cleethorpes' Marc Cooper and Staveley's Nathan Jessop.
And, in County Cup action, Bridlington Town are through to the final of the East Riding Senior Cup after an 8-1 demolition of Riccall United, with doubles for Joel Sutton and Andy Norfolk helping them to a comfortable win and the Seasiders will face North Ferriby United at Hull City's KC Stadium next month in a bid to lift the trophy.
Handsworth, however, were knocked out of the Sheffield & Hallamshire Senior Cup at the semi-final stage on Thursday as they went down 2-1 at Evo-Stik League side Shaw Lane Aquaforce, Kieran Wells with their late consolation.
