Toolstation NCEL Match Review 2016/17 #15

25th September, 2016

Nine Toolstation NCEL sides won in the Second Round of Qualifying in this year?s Buildbase FA Vase at the weekend.

Twenty teams were involved with three ties seeing league rivals pitched against each other.

Hallam made short work of their fellow Division One opponents, Nostell Miners Welfare, thrashing them 8-1 with six of the goals coming in the last fifteen minutes.

Christian Savage had put Hallam ahead midway through the first period but their visitors levelled early in the second half through Stephen Smith.

Savage restored the hosts' advantage on 68 before an avalanche of goals which began with Jed Phillips, Simon Mirfin and Jack Hargreaves putting the match beyond doubt whilst a Steve Brammer brace from the penalty spot and an injury-time strike from Jake Currie completed the rout.

Kurtis Morley and Jamie Coulson netted towards the start of each half to send Staveley Miners Welfare through, the Premier Division hosts beating Division One Grimsby Borough, 2-0.

And, Glasshoughton Welfare and Hemsworth Miners Welfare will replay in midweek after their clash finished 2-2 at Leeds Road after extra-time, Nathan Keightley rescuing a draw for the Division One home side after their higher ranked visitors took the lead for a second time with a Samuel Jones spot kick.

There were also extra-time wins for Pontefract Collieries who, thanks to a Daniel Joynes brace, defeated visitors West Didsbury & Chorlton, 3-2, and for Hall Road Rangers who triumphed 4-3 at Silsden, Scott Phillips with the vital strike in the 112th minute.

There were victories on their travels for AFC Emley, Pickering Town and Bottesford Town with Bottesford winning by the biggest margin, 4-1 at Dunkirk, thanks to a Louis Grant brace and goals from Martin Pembleton and Daniel Boulton.

Pickering won 3-1 at Consett, Ryan Blott also scoring twice, whilst James Hurtley and Jordan Corduri brought Emley from behind to beat Ashton Athletic, 2-1.

AFC Mansfield defeated visitors Radcliffe Olympic, 4-2, to join them in Monday's draw for the First Round Proper which takes place towards the end of next month.

And, Bridlington Town swelled the NCEL ranks at the next stage with a win in the only game played on Sunday, 5-2 at home to Daisy Hill with two goals each from Brett Agnew and Joel Sutton helping them to victory.

But, there were losses for Clipstone, Harrogate Railway Athletic, Liversedge, Retford United, Rossington Main, Shirebrook Town and Westella & Willerby.

In the Premier Division, Albion Sports missed out on a chance to close the gap to leaders Cleethorpes Town to goal difference as they were beaten 4-2 at home by Garforth Town who climb to fifteenth.

Mitchell Hamilton and James Beaston had the visitors two goals up by the sixteenth minute, Daniel Facey halved the deficit soon after but Mark Simpson and Vincent Dhesi made sure the Miners were in full control by the early stages of the second period so that even a second from Facey could not halt their victory charge.

Thackley climb to fourth, just behind Sports, despite letting a 3-1 half-time lead slip to draw 3-3 at Maltby Main, Patrick McGuire with two of the visitors' goals whilst Steve Hopewell and Jordan Snodin struck in the second period to share the spoils.

Jon Froggatt's hat-trick helped sixth placed Handsworth Parramore to a 5-1 win at home to next-to-bottom Parkgate whilst basement side Armthorpe Welfare were beaten by two Aaron Moxam goals as they went down 2-0 to visitors Rainworth Miners Welfare.

The day's other Premier Division clash saw Athersley Recreation and Barton Town Old Boys play out a goalless draw at Sheerien Park.

Winterton Rangers are back at the top of Division One after their 2-2 draw at now fourth placed side Pontefract Collieries, Matthew Crane putting the visitors ahead on 22 minutes but Kane Reece restored parity at the start of the second half before Michael Dunn gave Ponte the lead and a late Jamie Richardson strike ensured a point apiece.

Two goals each from Brad Walker and Fraser Lancaster saw Knaresborough Town triumph 4-1 at Brigg Town and they are now sixth in the table whilst Eccleshill United drop to eighth after a 3-3 home draw in which they conceded twice in the last two minutes to Campion.

Scott Jones' brace helped Selby Town up to ninth with a 4-1 win at Worsbrough Bridge Athletic and Yorkshire Amateur are now eleventh after their 1-0 defeat of hosts Ollerton Town, Adam Shaw with the goal.

And, Daniel Fletcher struck twice to add to Daniel Bacon's early opener as Teversal ran out 3-0 home victors over Dronfield Town.
