Toolstation NCEL Match Review 2016/17 #25

30th October, 2016

Cleethorpes were triumphant in their clash at home to fellow top three side Liversedge on Saturday to increase their lead at the summit of the Toolstation NCEL Premier Division to three points.

The Owls, who remain unbeaten after fifteen league matches, scored all their goals in a 4-2 victory in the opening 24 minutes.

Andrew Taylor's brace was added to by strikes from Jonathan Oglesby and Peter Winn before a mini-revival at the start of the second period from Sedge with Adam Porritt and Joe Walton halving the deficit.

Second-placed Thackley lost a little ground on Cleethorpes, meanwhile, as they were held 0-0 at home by Staveley Miners Welfare.

Bridlington Town stay fourth having made it eight wins in a row with a 4-1 victory at next-to-bottom Barton Town Old Boys, Joel Sutton's double taking his tally to 21, equal to teammate Brett Agnew who scored their fourth whilst Andrew Norfolk also got on the scoresheet.

Daniel Facey and Devonte Morton struck in each half for Albion Sports who won 2-0 at home to Maltby Main to complete the top five.

Late goals earned Pickering Town a victory by the same scoreline over visitors Handsworth Parramore, Joseph Danby and Ryan Blott netting to see the Pikes replace their opponents in sixth spot.

A 3-1 home win over Retford United, with Paul Grimes and Martin Pembleton adding to Terence Barwick's late first half penalty, sees Bottesford Town up to eighth whilst Hemsworth Miners Welfare and Athersley Recreation climb to ninth and tenth, respectively, after their 1-1 draw at the MDC Stadium.

There were away wins for Rainworth Miners Welfare who defeated Worksop Town, 5-0, including injury time strikes from Nicholas Langford and Owen Heather, for Harrogate Railway Athletic who beat Clipstone, 3-2, with an 87th minute winner from Paul Beesley, and for Armthorpe Welfare who prevailed 2-0 at bottom side Parkgate.

Meanwhile, Jack McMurrough's goal just before the half-hour mark claimed a 1-0 home win for Garforth Town against AFC Mansfield.

Division One leaders Penistone Church are now two points clear of three teams after they kept their unbeaten start to the season going, Jack Moore's strike earning a 1-0 victory at Worsbrough Bridge Athletic.

Hallam, Knaresborough Town and Grimsby Borough are their closest rivals after they all tasted success.

Jake Currie's hat-trick and a late Connor Chappell strike secured a 4-3 home win for Hallam over basement outfit Nostell Miners Welfare whilst Colin Heath and Brad Walker ensured a 2-0 victory for Knaresborough over visitors Teversal and Adam Drury's 76th minute winner made it a 2-1 triumph for Borough at Yorkshire Amateur.

Another three sides are a further two points behind as the promotion chase continues to be a very tight one but Pontefract Collieries drop to fifth after sixth placed hosts Campion beat them 3-0, Eli Hey scoring twice to make it 21 goals this season for him.

And, Winterton Rangers tightened their grip on sixth as goals in the final quarter from Matthew Bradley and Matthew Crane made sure of a 3-1 win at home to Westella & Willerby.

James Wroot and Charlie Flaherty scored in 1-0 away victories for Brigg Town at Selby Town and for Eccleshill United at Selby Town, respectively.

There were 1-1 draws for Hall Road Rangers with visitors Dronfield Town and for AFC Emley at Shirebrook Town, Mark Robinson's injury time leveller claiming a point for the hosts at Langwith Road.

And, Conor Glavin's strike early in the second period was enough for Glasshoughton Welfare as they prevailed 2-1 at home to Ollerton Town.
