Toolstation NCEL Match Review 2016/17 #29

13th November, 2016

Cleethorpes Town and Bottesford Town were the winners in the two all-NCEL Buildbase FA Vase Second Round matches that took place on Saturday.

Premier Division leaders Cleethorpes were 2-1 victors at AFC Emley but it was the Division One hosts who broke the deadlock on 31 minutes, Kieran Ryan with the strike, before late goals from Jack Richardson and Liam Dickens sent the Owls through.

Bottesford also won at Division One opposition, Terence Barwick and Daniel Boulton netting after the interval in a 2-0 win at Hall Road Rangers but the Premier Division visitors had to wait until the 87th minute for their second to fully confirm their place in the Third Round.

Joining them will be AFC Mansfield who won 2-1 at former NCEL side Blidworth Welfare, Oliver Fearon and Ryan Williams with the Bulls' goals in the second period after the home side had taken a first-half lead.

However, Hallam and Worksop Town bowed out, losing 4-0 at home to Morpeth Town and away at Newton Aycliffe, respectively, whilst Pickering Town are also out after a 5-0 defeat to visitors Shildon.

Two ties were postponed due to bad weather so Staveley Miners Welfare now travel to Charnock Richard on Tuesday whilst Hemsworth Miners Welfare go to Dunston UTS on the same evening.

Meanwhile, a couple of NCEL sides were involved in East Riding Senior Cup action with Bridlington Town winning 1-0 at Malton & Norton in their Second Round tie thanks to a last gasp Joel Sutton strike whilst Westella & Willerby conceded twice in stoppage time to go down 4-3 at Hanson Jewellers.

The biggest story in the Premier Division was bottom side Parkgate's first league win of the season at the eighteenth attempt, breaking their duck as Benjamin Thornton's 33rd minute strike earned them a 1-0 home victory over Rainworth Miners Welfare.

At the other end, second placed Thackley closed the gap on Cleethorpes to just goal difference as they won 3-1 at home to next-to-bottom Barton Town Old Boys, a Christopher Wademen double along with a Patrick McGuire strike securing the points whilst Jonathan O'Callaghan netted for the Swans.

There is now an eight point gap to Liversedge who stay third despite a 2-1 loss at Clipstone, George Milner and Sam Forster scoring in the first half for the home side before a Rhys Davies penalty on the hour brought Sedge back into the game.

Albion Sports remain fifth after their 2-1 home defeat to Handsworth Parramore, Aaron Moxam's 24th goal of the season on 75 minutes claiming the win for the visitors who climb to sixth.

Danny Cawley and Kai Hancock got on the scoresheet for Athersley Recreation who are now eighth following their 2-0 victory at Armthorpe Welfare.

There was an injury time winner for Joshua Raby as Retford United beat visitors Maltby Main, 3-2, and for Garforth Town's Luke McCrum in their 2-1 victory at Harrogate Railway Athletic.

The top two in Division One both won and are now five points clear of the chasing pack, Penistone Church ahead of Grimsby Borough on goal difference after their 1-0 home win over Selby Town, Thomas Jones with the vital strike.

Borough, meanwhile, were 2-0 victors at Worsbrough Bridge Athletic, Daniel Trott getting both of their goals in the second half.

Benjamin Cohen levelled with five minutes remaining to earn Knaresborough Town a 2-2 draw at Pontefract Collieries and they move up into third spot whilst the Colls stay fifth.

A brace from Mark Bett helped Campion climb into the top six with a 4-1 victory at Dronfield Town and Ollerton Town won by the same scoreline at Rossington Main with two goals each for Kyle Ludlow and Lewis Bingham.

Brigg Town won a dramatic game at Yorkshire Amateur, James Wroot striking deep in injury time for a 5-4 victory after the home side had thought they had claimed a point with a late Daniel Freeman goal.

And, Shirebrook Town beat near neighbours Teversal, 2-0 at Langwith Road, Mitchell Dunne opening the scoring on the hour before a late second from Jonathon Hills confirmed the victory.

One game was called off, Winterton Rangers' home clash with Eccleshill United succumbing to a waterlogged pitch.
