Cleethorpes Town have a slender advantage going into the second leg of their Buildbase FA Vase semi-final after a 1-1 draw at Midland League side Bromsgrove Sporting on Saturday.

The Owls found themselves behind at the interval to a Jason Cowley strike but an own goal from Luke Edwards early in the second period meant there was nothing to separate the sides in front of a massive crowd of 3,349.

And, Cleethorpes will now be hoping that home advantage next weekend will help to book them a place in the final at Wembley.

Meanwhile, their lead at the top of the Toolstation NCEL Premier Division was cut to four points as second-placed Pickering Town won 5-1 at home to Bottesford Town.

Nicholas Thompson's brace as well as a Lewis Taylor spot-kick and a Joseph Danby strike saw them race into a 4-1 lead by the 27th minute before Ryan Blott added the fifth midway through the second period.

The battle to avoid relegation, meanwhile, is growing very tense with Barton Town Old Boys and Parkgate claiming vital wins.

Barton's was all the more valuable as it was at the expense of fellow bottom four side Armthorpe Welfare, Thomas Waudby and Edward Rogerson scoring for the Swans in a 2-1 victory after the away side had taken the lead through Jack Waldron.

Parkgate go above Armthorpe into twentieth after Steven McDonnell's opener, an own goal from Sam Chapman and Alex Lill's strike just before half-time claimed a 3-0 home victory over Harrogate Railway Athletic.

Stephen Smith's 84th minute winner saw Albion Sports beat hosts Liversedge, 2-1, and they stay sixth just ahead of AFC Mansfield who have climbed to seventh after Matthew Plummer and James Ghaichem helped them to a 2-0 victory at Worksop Town.

The chase for the Division One title continues to gather pace as leaders Pontefract Collieries could only pick up a point in a 1-1 draw at Dronfield Town, Michael Dunn's penalty equalising for the Colls after Christian Savage put the hosts ahead on ten minutes.

Second-placed AFC Emley are now only four points behind as they won 3-0 at Yorkshire Amateur despite being reduced to nine men for most of the game before Ashley Flynn opened the scoring with a quarter-of-an-hour remaining and Matthew Jackson netted twice in quick succession.

Things were less dramatic for Hall Road Rangers as they beat visitors Grimsby Borough, 1-0, James Piercy with a seventeenth minute header that moves them to six points off the summit with two games in hand.

Hallam keep hold of sixth spot despite Calum Ward's goal condemning them to a 1-0 loss at Selby Town as the side just below them, Knaresborough Town, fell to a 2-1 home defeat to Eccleshill United, Jonathan Irving with the Eagles' winner.

The outlook is looking increasingly bleak for bottom side Nostell Miners Welfare who were beaten by a late David Dean strike in a single-goal loss at Brigg Town, leaving them twelve points from safety with six matches remaining.

The team they are chasing picked up a massive win in their attempts to avoid the drop, Worsbrough Bridge Athletic edging a 3-2 home defeat of Ollerton Town, Ryan Pleasants with what proved to be a vital third in the 72nd minute.

Elsewhere, Ryan Poskitt struck twice as Glasshoughton Welfare won 3-2 at home to Winterton Rangers and Rossington Main beat visitors Teversal, 3-1, to move up to seventeenth.
