Toolstation NCEL Match Review 2016/17 #66

30th March, 2017

Bridlington Town are the latest Toolstation NCEL side to reach a county cup final after their 3-1 win over Pocklington Town in midweek in the East Riding Senior Cup.

Brett Agnew put them ahead on fifteen minutes in the last-four tie that was played at the Roy West Centre in Hull.

And, although the scores were quickly levelled, the Seasiders went on to beat their Humber Premier League opponents with goals from Tom Fleming and Joel Sutton.

Penistone Church, however, could not progress from the semi-final of their Sheffield & Hallamshire Senior Cup tie at Evo-Stik League side Shaw Lane but battled hard in their 3-1 loss, Jack Moore with their consolation goal on 83 minutes.

The last remaining League Cup quarter-final was played with Glasshoughton Welfare booking their place in the semis as Callum Harrison's opener and an Elliott Williams doubled earned them a 3-1 win at Hallam and they now travel to Penistone at the next stage.

Premier Division leaders Cleethorpes Town remain two points ahead at the top of the table after they went down 3-0 at Maltby Main, Ryan Carroll and Steve Hopewell putting the hosts in control by half-time before Keegan Burton added the third in the second period.

Fifth-placed Handsworth Parramore moved to within a point of the side just above them Thackley after beating them 1-0 at the Windsor Foodservice Stadium, William Eades with the strike on 51 minutes.

Staveley Miners Welfare climbed to seventh as a double from Callum Mawbey helped them to a 5-1 home victory over Harrogate Railway Athletic whilst Athersley Recreation are up to ninth, also on 59 points.

That's after their 3-0 home triumph over Worksop Town, Liam Owen starting the scoring before two more from Kai Hancock made certain of the victory.

Retford United are off the bottom of the table after Jake Ashton, James Eyles and Oliver Perry netted in a 3-0 win over visitors Hemsworth Miners Welfare, closing the gap to safety to six points.

In Division One, Hall Road Rangers stay third after dropping points in a 1-1 draw at Teversal, Gareth Owen putting them ahead early in the second period before a Sam Belcher own goal shared the spoils.

Rangers are now four points behind leaders AFC Emley with a game in hand and two behind second-placed Pontefract Collieries in the chase for the title.

Grimsby Borough, who are fourth, got the point they required to secure at least a play-off position as they drew 0-0 at home with Rossington Main.

Campion's own play-off ambitions were dented as they drew 2-2 at home to Selby Town, Eli Hey's double for the hosts cancelled out by Calum Ward for the Robins, leaving them ten points away from the top six.

Jonathan Irving and Luke Harrop got on the scoresheet for Eccleshill United as they move up to one place below Campion in ninth with a 2-0 home victory over Yorkshire Amateur.

Next-to-bottom Westella & Willerby gave their survival hopes a boost as they beat the side just above them and outside of the relegation zone, Worsbrough Bridge Athletic, 1-0 at home.

Joshua Walker scored what could be a vital goal as Westella cut the gap to nine points with two matches more to play.

And, there were away wins for Brigg Town and Winterton Rangers as Nathan Peat got two in a 5-2 victory at Dronfield Town for the Zebras whilst Hashlee Cranidge and Paul Grimes scored in a 2-0 win at Shirebrook Town for Rangers.
