Citizens to give away car
13th August, 2015
Toolstation NCEL Division One outfit Hull United have revealed they plan to give away a free brand new car at their opening home game of the season this Saturday.
The idea follows almost a year to the day since club founder Jamie Waltham offered to pay supporters ?2 who attended United's first home game last season.
This time round, the car labelled as 'a gift to the people' will be handed to one lucky winner who attends United's game at Dene Park against Dronfield Town in a free raffle after full-time.
"Gift to the people is a term I first heard when Assem Allam took over at Hull City," Waltham said when speaking to the Hull Daily Mail on Wednesday.
"I just love the concept of somebody giving to the people.
"We live in a world today whereby people don't tend to give first.
"If you give first before you hope to receive then fundamentally that is the way the world should be so this is why the ethos of the club is to be a giving club."
The Citizens began their NCEL Division One campaign with maximum points last weekend at Yorkshire Amateur and a bumper crowd is now expected at Dene Park on Saturday.
Waltham also stated how you can drive away with the new car: "If you come to Dene Park on Saturday afternoon, you'll find me there giving you two things.
"First of all you will get a lifetime pass for the club if you have not already got one and then we are going to give you a raffle ticket which is free.
"We will then draw the raffle at the end of the game and somebody will be driving away in a brand new car."
The match kicks off at Dene Park at 3pm but the club are urging people to arrive early as they do anticipate queues.
