Hepworth steps down at Pewits
8th May, 2017
Darren Hepworth has resigned as AFC Emley manager due to a change in work circumstances.
The Pewits narrowly missed out on a move up into the Toolstation NCEL Premier Division last month as, despite amassing 95 points, they finished third in Division One and were beaten in the play-offs by eventual promotion-winning side Penistone Church.
A club statement said: "Several weeks ago, Darren was offered the opportunity to continue next season but has now concluded that his availability to manage the team during the next twelve months will be severely limited."
Chairman Nigel Wakefield added: "Darren Hepworth has turned this club from a mid-table also-ran to title challengers while playing great attacking football - resulting in record breaking crowds.
"It's testament to his mindset that he has decided to step down rather than trying to do the job with anything less than 100% commitment.
"He has given his all and we are immensely grateful for what he has achieved during his long stint as our manager."
The club say they will make a further announcement in due course.
