NCEL 2010/11 Match Review #17
3rd October, 2010
Six KoolSport NCEL sides booked their place in the Second Round of the FA Vase in what was an excellent weekend for the League.
Only Hallam bowed out with defeat at AFC Liverpool whilst seven of our teams face midweek replays, six of those in three all-NCEL clashes.
The most comfortable afternoon belonged to Leeds Carnegie who were 4-0 winners at home to Easington Colliery.
Greig McGrory scored twice in the opening period whilst Kyle Hawthorne equalled that feat after the interval to secure the victory over the Wearside League outfit.
AFC Emley defeated visitors Runcorn Linnets 3-1 with Craig Rouse's two second-half goals, one from the penalty spot, settling the game after the match was all-square at the break.
Tom Woollard's spot-kick and Carl Stewart's strike as the first period went into injury time saw Tadcaster Albion through at the expense of Tow Law Town, 2-0, at 2inspire Park.
A first minute goal from Ben Porter, added to by two second half strikes from Jack Cross and Kirk Frost enabled Winterton Rangers to progress 3-1 at home to Deeping Rangers.
And, Staveley Miners Welfare won 1-0 at Vodkat League side Ramsbottom United, courtesy of Andrew Fox's 38th minute goal.
The biggest crowd of the afternoon saw an extraordinary tussle between Scarborough Athletic and their landlords Bridlington Town.
777 people saw Craig Palmer give Bridlington the lead on the half-hour and just as the "away" fans were set to celebrate, Ryan Blott forced extra-time with a penalty on 86 minutes.
Blott then gave the Seadogs the lead in the 108th minute from the spot before a third penalty was given in extra-time injury-time, this time to Bridlington.
Palmer slotted it away to make it 2-2 and the two sides reconvene at Queensgate on Tuesday night.
A last-gasp penalty was also the dramatic climax in another all-NCEL tie as Louth Town and Barton Town Old Boys drew 3-3.
The game was level at 2-2 after ninety minutes with the visitors coming twice from behind.
And, when Matt Kennedy got his second and Louth's third in the last minute of the opening period of extra-time, it looked as though there would be no way back for Barton.
But, the referee pointed to the spot in the 120th minute and Richard Medcalf converted the penalty to give the away side another chance to progress on Tuesday.
Brighouse Town and Eccleshill United also produced a fantastic match, needing extra-time before finishing 3-3.
The hosts took the lead on twelve minutes through Luke Malcher but Joe Penn quickly equalised for the Division One side.
Eccleshill went 2-1 up when Matthew Moore found the net on 69 minutes but, once again, parity was quickly restored, this time through Graham Marchant for Brighouse.
Extra time saw Nathan Cartman put the home side ahead once more but Matt Dempsey levelled to take the match to a replay.
And, Arnold Town will also play again on Tuesday after their thrilling 4-4 scoreline at Holbrook Sports.
They were 2-0 up after forty minutes but somehow allowed the home side to lead 4-3 as the match went into its final moments.
But, Jervaise Christie popped up in the 89th minute to bring the scores back level and, with no further scoring in extra time, the Eagles will be travelling to the East Midlands Counties League side in midweek.
Farsley AFC have stretched their lead at the top of the Premier Division to four points but they needed an injury-time winner from Simeon Bambrook to win 1-0 at Long Eaton United.
Goals in the final quarter-of-an-hour from James Eyles and Franck Zalo earned Nostell Miners Welfare a 3-1 victory at home to Selby Town to move them up into sixth position.
Just behind them are Armthorpe Welfare who were 3-2 winners over visitors Dinnington Town in a match where four of the five goals were scored from the penalty spot.
Michael Blythen netted twice for the away side before Bruno Holden and then Henry Sibenge secured the victory from twelve yards.
Lincoln Moorlands Railway moved out of the bottom three with a 3-0 victory at Pickering Town whilst Parkgate were 4-2 winners at Hall Road Rangers and Maltby Main beat visitors Liversedge, 2-1.
Carl Fothergill's 34th minute goal saw Pontefract Collieries move to the top of Division One with a 1-0 win at home to Yorkshire Amateur.
Grimsby Borough climbed into the top six as they comfortably beat Askern Villa 4-0 in a home match that was played at Barton Town Old Boys' Euronics Ground.
Teversal won 2-1 at Appleby Frodingham whilst there were also away victories for Worsbrough Bridge Athletic at Glasshoughton Welfare, Hemsworth Miners Welfare at Handsworth and Bottesford Town at Rossington Main.
And, Shirebrook Town were 3-0 winners at home to Brodsworth Welfare, Simon Johnson scoring twice for the Langwith Road side with Michael Lyall also finding the net.
