NCEL 2010/11 Match Review #28
11th November, 2010
Pontefract Collieries have moved up into second spot in KoolSport NCEL Division One as their midweek victory at Glasshoughton Welfare ensured only goal difference separates the top three.
Jonathan Forsyth and Joe Thornton struck in the first half before Carl Fothergill completed the scoring in a 3-1 win after Dell Pollock had pulled one back for the hosts.
They join leaders Barton Town Old Boys and third placed Staveley Miners Welfare on 35 points although the top side has a slender advantage with a game in hand.
Askern Villa moved up into fourth, four points behind, after their 3-2 victory at home to Louth Town.
They had gone behind through a Jack Debnam strike on 24 minutes but they pulled it round with goals from Mel Cotton and Lee Pugh to lead by the interval.
Dave Smith added a third early in the second half before Paul Watts' 65th minute penalty made it tense affair for the final quarter of the match.
A 4-0 home win over bottom side Brodsworth Welfare sees Yorkshire Amateur in fifth spot.
All the goals came in the second half from Dominic Noteman, Curtis Bernard, Leroy McIntosh and Dempsey Smith.
Shirebrook Town climbed four places to eleventh with their 3-2 victory at Appleby Frodingham, Gareth Campion netting the winner with ten minutes remaining.
And, Bottesford Town won 4-2 at Teversal with the match all-but-over in the first half, courtesy of strikes from Kirk Shrimpton, Martin Pembleton and Danny Moore.
Brad Hewitt made it 4-0 before the home side suddenly woke up with Colin Cockerill converting a penalty on 87 minutes and Daniel Bradbury adding a second five minutes into injury time.
The only Premier Division match in midweek ended in stalemate, Ben Good's eighth minute strike for the hosts cancelled out quickly by Paul Ashton as Lincoln Moorlands Railway and Selby Town played out a 1-1 draw.
Bridlington Town became the first side to book their place in the Semi-Finals of the President's Cup with a 5-1 victory at home to Leeds Carnegie.
Tom Fleming opened the scoring and Craig Hogg's penalty gave the Seasiders a two-goal advantage by the break.
Ashley Allanson and James McGarry added to their tally before Ben Spargo got Carnegie off the mark on 78 minutes.
The final word, though, was with the home side as McGarry got his second to conclude the scoring.
Three Sheffield & Hallamshire Senior Cup Second Round matches also escaped the bad weather.
Two each for Jamie Smith and Ryan Damms saw Staveley upset Premier Division visitors Hallam, 6-2 whilst Parkgate were 3-2 winners at home to Dinnington Town, Nathan Swindells with two of their goals.
Maltby Main, however, bowed out after being beaten 4-0 at Frickley Athletic.
