NCEL 2010/11 Match Review #36
9th January, 2011
KoolSport NCEL Premier Division leaders Farsley AFC returned to winning ways to stay at the summit with a 4-1 victory at Dinnington Town on Saturday.
The match was never in doubt from when Simeon Bambrook opened the scoring for the visitors after nine minutes.
By the interval, he had scored his second and Mark Bett also netted to give Farsley a 3-0 advantage.
Michael Blythen struck on 55 minutes to start a mini-comeback by the home side but Ben Jones put an end to that with his side's fourth midway through the second period.
Farsley remain two points clear of Parkgate who were 3-1 victors at home to Lincoln Moorlands Railway.
Matthew Griffin bagged a brace whilst Nathan Swindells converted a penalty for the Rotherham side before Ben Good got a late consolation for Moorlands.
There is now a seven point gap between Parkgate and third-placed Bridlington Town as the Seasiders' match at Long Eaton United was one of seven games called off in the NCEL due to bad weather.
A 3-1 win over visitors Thackley has moved Maltby Main up into fourth spot with new signing Adam Geliff scoring twice on his debut for them whilst Oliver Warren also got on the scoresheet and Harry Thompson pulled one back for the away side as the game went into injury time.
Arnold Town are out of the bottom three following their goalless draw at home to bottom side Liversedge.
The most remarkable game was at the Neil Hudgell Law Stadium where Scarborough Athletic saw a four goal lead disappear to draw 4-4 at home to Hallam.
Richard Medcalf had hit a hat-trick and Gary Hepples had also scored for the Seadogs to seemingly give them the three points as the match went into the final twenty minutes.
But, an amazing comeback from Hallam began with Phil Reynolds' strike before Jordan Turner and Lee Cooksey put them within one goal of their hosts and Turner then grabbed his second and the equaliser in injury time.
Scarborough remain fourteenth in the table but have games in hand on the sides above them whilst Hallam stay in the bottom two.
Staveley Miners Welfare stormed to the top of KoolSport NCEL Division One with a 6-1 home win over Brodsworth Welfare.
Ryan Damms put them ahead against the league's basement side after two minutes but Brodsworth struck back quickly with an equaliser from Tom Hyde.
But, after that, it was a comfortable afternoon for the hosts who were 3-1 up by the break with further goals from Joseph Thornton and Andrew Fox whilst Chris Coy and then an Adam Houghton double ensured victory towards the end of the second half.
Patrick Miller and Danny Forrest scored for Yorkshire Amateur who have moved up into second with a 2-1 victory at Bottesford Town.
They go above Barton Town Old Boys, who drew 2-2 at home to Worsbrough Bridge Athletic, and Pontefract Collieries whose game was called off.
Glasshoughton Welfare have climbed to eighth after Damion Liddle's fifteenth minute goal was enough for a victory at Rossington Main whilst there were away wins for Teversal and Eccleshill United.
Teversal beat Hemsworth Miners Welfare 2-1 with second half goals from Mitchell Slawson and Oliver Trigg whilst Eccleshill were 3-2 victors at Louth Town.
Shirebrook Town, meanwhile, won 2-1 at home to AFC Emley to move up into twelfth.
