NCEL 2010/11 Match Review #39

20th January, 2011

Farsley AFC missed out on a chance to go five points clear at the top of the KoolSport NCEL Premier Division as they were beaten 2-1 at Lincoln Moorlands Railway on Wednesday night.

They had taken the lead through Ben Jones just before the interval but the hosts stormed back at the start of the second period with goals from Josh Schofield and Tom Garrick.

The defeat for the Throstle Nest side means that second-placed Parkgate remain two points behind them with three games in hand.

Tadcaster Albion, who are third, moved to within eight points of Farsley having played four matches less, as they won 3-1 at struggling Dinnington Town in one of the six top flight games played on Tuesday.

David Hartas gave the Brewers a first-half lead before Andrew Dawson and Graeme Whitehead made sure of the victory with a three-goal cushion by the 80th minute.

Dinnington pulled one back through Russell Hobson but the loss means they stay in eighteenth spot ahead of Liversedge and Hallam who played each other at Sandygate.

Sedge were 4-2 winners over their hosts, meaning they move off the bottom, thanks to two goals each from Ben Hardy and Jamie Wasley.

Simon Asquith and Neil Longhurst found the net for Hallam who replace their visitors at the foot of the table.

Selby Town are ninth after a goal in each half from Liam Davis and Adam Lee secured a 2-0 win at home to Scarborough Athletic whilst a Ben Muirhead brace saw Armthorpe Welfare come from behind to beat visitors Thackley, 2-1.

Arnold Town picked up a point at Long Eaton United with a 1-1 draw whilst it was goalless between Pickering Town and Brighouse Town.

Joseph Thornton's 79th minute winner means that Staveley Miners Welfare have extended their lead at the top of Division One to seven points with a game in hand.

They won 2-1 at home to Leeds Carnegie, Aymen Tahar putting them ahead on four minutes before Greig McGrory levelled midway through the second period.

Askern Villa moved up to third as Tom McLaughlin's 51st minute strike earned them a single-goal victory at Hemsworth Miners Welfare and a 3-1 home win over Bottesford Town has seen Eccleshill United climb into the top six.

Marcus Edwards, Declan Corby and Andrew Fieldhouse made it a good night for the Eagles whilst Craig Bridge found the net for Bottesford.

Louth Town are up into seventh as a Danny Kilmore double, sandwiching a Ben Davison strike, meant a 3-0 win at local rivals Grimsby Borough.

And, Dean Wharam's hat-trick led to a 3-2 victory for AFC Emley over Shirebrook Town that moves them out of the bottom four.

It was a comfortable Tuesday evening in the Wilkinson Sword Trophy for Rossington Main as they progressed to the Third Round by beating Brodsworth Welfare 6-1 at home.

The game was over by half-time with five of Rossington's goals coming in the first period from Zeph Thomas, Michael MacDonald, David Holvey, Nathan Fraser and a Jason Stokes penalty.

Fraser got his second and his side's sixth on fifty minutes but then the only other goal of the match came from Tom Hyde for the visitors just after the hour mark.

Rossington now face Barton Town Old Boys who found it a lot tougher getting through to the last eight.

They were 3-2 winners at Worsbrough Bridge Athletic with Phil Jackman's winner coming in the seventh minute of extra-time.
