NCEL 2010/11 Match Review #40
23rd January, 2011
This season?s FA Vase adventure came to an end for the KoolSport Northern Counties East League at the weekend whilst there were new leaders at the top of the Premier Division.
Tadcaster Albion and Staveley Miners Welfare were the league's two sides in the Fourth Round but, sadly, neither could make it a step closer to Wembley.
Tadcaster were beaten 2-1 in a tight game at STL Northern League outfit, Billingham Synthonia, Steven Jeff pulling one back for them on 70 minutes after a James Magowan double had put the hosts in control.
And, Staveley lost 3-0 at home to Sussex County League side Rye United as two goals in three second-half minutes from Sam Cole put the game beyond the Inkersall Road outfit.
Both of our sides, though, can be very proud of their achievements in getting so far in the competition.
The leading two sides clashed in the Premier Division and leaders Farsley AFC found themselves toppled as they were beaten 3-2 at Parkgate.
Ashley Worsfold had the home side ahead after nineteen minutes but Roy Stamer pulled Farsley back level almost immediately.
Nathan Swindells then struck to give Parkgate a half-time lead and Worsfold doubled his tally early in the second period to secure the victory.
Stamer struck again to make it a tight last quarter-of-an-hour but the hosts held on to go top by a point and with three games in hand.
Maltby Main moved into the top four with a 5-0 win at Brighouse Town.
Rob Branagan and Adam Shepherd secured them a two-goal cushion by the break but Maltby had to wait until the 75th minute for their third which came courtesy of Christopher Wood and then a Daniel Jones brace compounded the home side's misery.
Main went above Bridlington Town who were winning 2-0 at Armthorpe Welfare only to be pegged back by a Joe Wilcox equaliser six minutes from time.
Ashley Allanson and Alex Rhodes had them two-up by the 33rd minute but Leo Fortune-West gave the hosts' hope after the interval and Wilcox popped up to share the spoils.
Adam Lee's last-gasp winner secured Selby Town a 2-1 victory at home to Lincoln Moorlands Railway, earning them three points that move them up into sixth spot.
Tom Garrick had given the visitors a 26th-minute lead but that had been cancelled out by Bruno Holden soon after half-time.
Ryan Blott eased the pressure on Scarborough Athletic as they won 1-0 at home to fellow bottom-six side Arnold Town.
His goal came in the 38th minute to put further daylight between the Seadogs and Hall Road Rangers who are sixteenth.
Pickering Town were 2-1 winners over visitors Nostell Miners Welfare thanks to an injury-time winner from Robert Hawkes whilst Shaun Rickford's second-half goals saw Long Eaton United come from 2-0 down at home to Winterton Rangers to pick up a point.
Yorkshire Amateur's unbeaten run was stretched to fourteen games as they won 3-0 at home to Barton Town Old Boys to cut the gap between themselves and leaders Staveley to four points.
All the goals came in the opening 35 minutes with Curtis Bernard netting twice around a Danny Forrest strike.
Askern Villa lost some ground on the top two with a 0-0 draw at home to Bottesford Town and they have been replaced in third by Louth Town who won 2-0 against visitors Teversal with goals from Sam Smith and Steve Norton.
Fifth-placed Eccleshill United drew 2-2 at Rossington Main, Declan Corby and Marcus Edwards scoring for them after Bradley Billam and Liam Charlton had given Main a two-goal lead by the interval.
A couple of Simon Johnson penalties saw Shirebrook Town triumph 2-1 at Grimsby Borough whilst AFC Emley were 2-0 winners at Appleby Frodingham, Teo Ringrose and Steve Kenworthy with their goals.
Five games were postponed with Premier Division matches at Dinnington Town and Hallam, along with Division One clashes at Hemsworth Miners Welfare, Leeds Carnegie and Worsbrough Bridge Athletic, called off due to frozen pitches.
