NCEL 2010/11 Match Review #43

3rd February, 2011

The KoolSport NCEL Premier Division and Division One title races got a little bit tighter after what was another pulsating round of midweek matches.

League leaders Parkgate were unable to stretch their advantage at the summit as they went down to a 1-0 defeat at Winterton Rangers.

Thomas Finnigan struck the only goal of the game just before the hour mark but Parkgate came close to an equaliser when they were awarded a penalty on 70 minutes.

Nathan Swindells tucked it away but was ordered to retake the spot-kick as he had hesitated in his run-up and his second attempt went over the bar.

Parkgate remain two points clear of second-placed Farsley AFC but now have just one game in hand.

Tadcaster Albion, who started the week in third spot, stuttered in their title challenge as they were beaten 1-0 at Scarborough Athletic.

Ryan Blott became the first player to score 100 goals for the Seadogs when he slotted home on the hour.

Bridlington Town moved up above Tadcaster into third with a 4-1 victory at Hall Road Rangers and, even though the Seasiders are nine points behind Parkgate, they do have four more matches to play than the leaders.

Nostell Miners Welfare came from behind to win 2-1 at Brighouse Town and climb up into seventh.

Graham Marchant and Dave Watts netted in the second period after Nathan Cartman had given the hosts a ninth-minute lead.

Goals from Tom Garrick and Gary Walters either side of half-time secured Lincoln Moorlands Railway a 2-0 victory at next-to-bottom Dinnington Town.

And, Liversedge drew 2-2 at home to Armthorpe Welfare, Chris Hanny with the equaliser for them in the 81st minute, but a point was not enough to move them out of the bottom two.

Yorkshire Amateur have cut the gap with Division One leaders Staveley Miners Welfare to one point after winning 4-0 at basement side, Brodsworth Welfare.

Curtis Bernard, Justin Bowler and Liam Tuck all struck to secure the win in the opening half with Dempsey Smith adding the fourth in second period stoppage time.

A Mitch Slawson hat-trick helped to secure Teversal a home victory by the same scoreline over Hemsworth Miners Welfare whilst Worsbrough Bridge Athletic drew 1-1 with visitors Bottesford Town.

Farsley are through to the Semi-Finals of the President's Cup after a 5-2 win over AFC Emley.

Most of the action came in the first period with the Premier Division side 3-1 up by the sixteenth minute.

Ben Jones had put them ahead before Teo Ringrose levelled for the Division One visitors and then Simeon Bambrook and Gareth Grant put the home side in control.

The goals, though, kept coming with Antony Leech halving Emley's deficit on the half-hour only for Grant to make it 4-2 almost immediately.

The second half was less thrilling with only one goal added, Dominic Krief finding the net on 59 minutes for Farsley who will now host Scarborough Athletic for a place in the Final.

Louth Town were comfortable 7-0 winners at home to Eccleshill United in the Second Round of the Wilkinson Sword Trophy to set up a visit to Shirebrook in the last eight.

Kurt Crossley, Danny Kilmore, Dan Pawson and Tim Lowe all got on the scoresheet in the first half before Crossley got his second after the break and Jamie Coulson and Steve Norton also got in on the action.

One of our three sides involved in West Riding County Cup action progressed through to the Semi-Finals.

Thackley were 2-1 winners at home to Garforth Town, Luke Richardson and Matthew Morgan's first half goals proving enough for victory.

Askern Villa and Pontefract Collieries bowed out but performed very well against higher-league opposition.

Askern were beaten 4-3 in extra-time at Goole AFC, Mel Cotton with two of their goals after Daniel Ferguson had given them a fifth minute lead.

And, Pontefract were leading thanks to Luke Forgione's strike before the half-hour but they went down 2-1 at home to Guiseley.
