NCEL 2010/11 Match Review #44

6th February, 2011

The leading two sides in the KoolSport NCEL Premier Division took full advantage of postponed matches for the chasing pack to extend their gap at the top of the table.

Both Parkgate and Farsley AFC won their games and their lead is now into double figures but they have played a handful of matches more than those closest to their tail.

Parkgate stay top after coming from behind to beat visitors Dinnington Town, Ashley Worsfold's second-half brace making it 2-1 after Mat Arnault had opened the scoring on sixteen minutes.

Farsley stay two points behind them after their 4-1 win at Selby Town, Scott Driscoll and Lee Connor putting them two-up by the hour before Ben Jones' penalty made sure of the victory.

Bruno Holden pulled one back for the Robins but Jones got his second and Farsley's fourth as the game went into stoppage time.

Third-placed Bridlington Town and Tadcaster Albion who are fourth were both left frustrated as their away matches at Nostell Miners Welfare and Brighouse Town were two of four games to be called off due to torrential rain in the west of the NCEL region.

Maltby Main moved up into fifth after their 3-1 win at Pickering Town, Christopher Wood with a brace for the Pikes to put them behind Tadcaster only on goal difference.

Main, who are now unbeaten in eleven matches, went above Winterton Rangers who were beaten by the same scoreline at Armthorpe Welfare.

Leo Fortune-West's double and James Walker's strike made it 3-0 for the hosts before Jack Cross converted a penalty late on to give Rangers some cheer.

Scarborough Athletic enjoyed the biggest home win of the day in front of the afternoon's biggest crowd of 377 as a 5-1 victory over Liversedge saw them up into thirteenth.

Darryl Leach put through his own net to give them the lead before Ben Hardy restored parity on 36 minutes but Christopher Jenkinson and Ryan Blott made sure the Seadogs were well in front by the interval.

The second period belonged to the Seadogs with Richard Medcalf netting twice to complete the victory.

Two late goals from Chris Freestone were not enough for Arnold Town who have now gone fifteen league games without a win.

The Eagles went down 3-2 at Hall Road Rangers, the hosts having scored through a Daniel Clarke double and a third from Adam Walker.

And, Kevin Mabon struck five minutes from time to rescue a point for Long Eaton United in their 2-2 home draw with Lincoln Moorlands Railway.

Staveley Miners Welfare are now four points ahead at the top of Division One after two goals from Jordan Eagers helped them to a 3-0 win at home to Eccleshill United, Joseph Thornton getting the third in stoppage time.

Third-placed Louth Town won 2-1 against visitors Brodsworth Welfare after the bottom side had taken the lead through Ian Sharp.

Sam Smith and Steve Norton turned the game around after half-time to give the home side the three points.

Askern Villa and Pontefract Collieries saw their title challenges take a knock with both losing narrowly on their travels.

Askern were beaten 2-1 at Shirebrook Town, Jay Rollins getting them a consolation after Peter Stubley and Darren Bettison had scored either side of the break to put the hosts in control.

And, Pontefract were denied by an 85th minute winner from Steve Kenworthy, his second of the afternoon, in a 3-2 win for AFC Emley.

Jason Stokes was the day's sole hat-trick hero as his three goals helped Rossington Main to a 5-2 win at home to Teversal whilst Grimsby Borough and Glasshoughton Welfare posted 1-0 victories.

Nathan Emson's strike saw Boro beat visitors Appleby Frodingham whilst Damion Liddle scored twelve minutes from time to give Glasshoughton the victory at Leeds Carnegie.

And, Bottesford Town booked their place in the last eight of the Wilkinson Sword Trophy with a 1-0 extra-time victory at Yorkshire Amateur.

Chris Rodgers struck the vital goal in the 97th minute and Bottesford will now go to Glasshoughton in the Third Round.
