NCEL 2010/11 Match Review #45
10th February, 2011
A busy midweek saw Farsley AFC return to the summit of the KoolSport NCEL Premier Division whilst Staveley Miners Welfare extended their lead at the top of Division One.
Simeon Bambrook struck the winner for Farsley in their 2-1 victory at Liversedge to leapfrog over Parkgate who were beaten 4-3 at home by Winterton Rangers.
Gareth Grant had put Farsley ahead on fifteen minutes before Ben Hardy levelled on the hour mark for Sedge but it was the away side who would eventually come away with the points.
Parkgate's match was as thrilling as the scoreline would suggest with both sides taking the lead during the evening.
Jack Cross had Winterton ahead after a quarter-of-an-hour and Ashley Worsfold then struck twice to put the hosts in front before Cross grabbed his second in the 28th minute and Gavin Cooper made it 3-2 to Rangers by the interval.
The game remained tight to the end with Danny Barlow grabbing the visitors' fourth late on and Grant Allott kept Parkgate in the match with their third soon after.
Winterton are now fourth, three places above Pickering Town who climbed up the table after Joe Danby and Darren Clough netted for a 2-1 win at Thackley after Matthew Morgan had given the hosts a 22nd minute lead.
There was no joy for any of the sides battling to avoid relegation with the ones in action - including Liversedge - all falling to defeats.
Next-to-bottom Dinnington Town came off worst as they were thrashed 7-1 at home by Scarborough Athletic.
Ryan Blott struck four times for the Seadogs whilst Bill Law, Chris Jenkinson and an Andy Sykes own goal made it a thoroughly miserable night for the home side.
Scarborough were 5-0 up by the break and added two more before Liam Cartledge struck for Dinnington with three minutes remaining.
And, a Sean Cann hat-trick condemned Arnold Town to a 3-1 defeat at Lincoln Moorlands Railway, Tyrone Burton with the goal for the Eagles who remain in seventeenth spot.
Elsewhere, Selby Town were 4-1 winners at home to Nostell Miners Welfare to climb up into ninth, Paul Ashton, Adam Lee, Liam Davis and Rob Eeles with their goals.
And, a great start by Armthorpe Welfare saw them beat hosts Long Eaton United 3-0, David Buck, Henry Sibenge and James Walker netting in the opening 28 minutes.
Staveley Miners Welfare are now seven points clear at the top of Division One after a Joe Thornton brace secured a 2-0 home victory over AFC Emley.
Fourth-placed Askern Villa kept their promotion hopes alive with a win by the same scoreline at struggling Appleby Frodingham, Mel Cotton and Tom McLaughlin with the goals.
The other four matches ended level with Andrew Taylor netting three minutes from time to earn Grimsby Borough a 2-2 draw at Rossington Main whilst Bottesford Town versus Teversal and Leeds Carnegie against Pontefract Collieries both finished with the same result.
And, Matt Dempsey's goal on 67 minutes for Eccleshill United cancelled out Danny Kilmore's opener as the Eagles drew 1-1 with visitors Louth Town.
Two injury-time goals for Barton Town Old Boys saw them through to the Third Round of the League Cup in a 4-2 victory at home to Hallam.
It was 2-2 and extra-time seemed a real possibility until the Division One side stunned their Premier Division opponents with a Rob Northen penalty and then their fourth from Phil Jackman killed off the away side's hopes.
And, there was also a shock in the competition's first Third Round tie as Handworth won 2-0 at Maltby Main, Mick Godber and Sam Smith with their goals in the last quarter of the game.
Tadcaster Albion proved too strong in extra time for Hemsworth Miners Welfare in their President's Cup Second Round clash.
The game was at 1-1 after ninety minutes and Lee Dawson put Hemsworth ahead early on in the further half-hour.
But, Carl Stewart and Terry Taylor gave the Brewers the lead by the interval and a Tom Woollard brace in the second period ensured the hosts a 5-2 victory.
And, Bridlington Town and Hall Road Rangers surged into the Semi-Finals of the East Riding Senior Cup.
Bridlington needed extra-time to overcome Sculcoates Amateurs, Scott Phillips and Tom Fleming with the vital goals in a 3-1 victory whilst Rangers won 3-0 against visitors Hutton Cranswick United.
