NCEL 2010/11 Match Review #46
13th February, 2011
Farsley AFC are now four points clear at the top of the KoolSport NCEL Premier Division after an ultimately comfortable win over bottom side Hallam.
It was an edgy start for the Throstle Nest side as the teams went in 0-0 at the interval but the hosts then struck five times without reply in the second period to put any nerves aside.
Andy Cooper struck the crucial opener on 54 minutes, the first of two goals from him, whilst Gareth Grant, Ben Jones and Simeon Bambrook also got on the scoresheet.
Farsley are now four points clear of second-placed Parkgate whose match at Scarborough Athletic was one of four NCEL games called off due to waterlogged pitches.
Bridlington Town failed to close the gap on the top two as they went down 5-3 in an amazing game at Liversedge.
It was 3-3 at the break with Craig Hogg netting twice for Bridlington but it was the home side who pressed on with second half strikes from Darryl Leach and Brook Newton.
Those three priceless points move Sedge out of the bottom three whilst Bridlington remain in third as Winterton Rangers' game was called off and fifth-placed Tadcaster Albion also lost.
The Brewers found themselves two goals down by half-time at home to Armthorpe Welfare, courtesy of Joe Wilcox and Leo Fortune-West.
Ryan Qualter brought Tadcaster back into it after the break but Henry Sibenge restored the two goal cushion for Welfare.
Terry Taylor made it 2-3 before David Buck got what was the vital fourth for Armthorpe on 82 minutes and Tom Woollard got a late third for the hosts.
The 4-3 win for Armthorpe sees them move up into eighth spot.
Nostell Miners Welfare climb to seventh after Richard Britton's 30th minute goal saw them win 1-0 at the side now just above them, Maltby Main.
Dinnington Town remain stuck in the bottom two after a 4-0 home defeat to Hall Road Rangers whilst Lincoln Moorlands Railway and Brighouse Town played out a scoreless draw.
Thackley jump over Long Eaton United into fourteenth after beating them 2-0 on their own patch.
Division One leaders Staveley Miners Welfare drew 0-0 at Worsbrough Bridge Athletic and have seen their lead at the top cut to five points.
Second-placed Yorkshire Amateur were 3-1 winners at home to Teversal, with most of the damage done in the opening quarter of the game.
Danny Forrest and Curtis Bernard both struck to give the hosts the perfect start but had to wait until the 79th minute for their third, Bernard finding his second of the afternoon and his nineteenth league goal of the season.
Mitch Slawson pulled one back in injury time for Teversal who stay in sixteenth.
The chasing pack kept the top two within their sights with victories for Louth Town, Askern Villa and Pontefract Collieries.
A Steve Norton brace secured a 2-1 win for Louth at Bottesford Town whilst Villa were 3-1 victors at home to Leeds Carnegie after the visitors had taken a first-half lead through Kyle Hawthorne.
Lee Wilkinson levelled on 72 minutes before a Daniel Ferguson double, one from the penalty spot, gave Louth the points.
Pontefract were 7-1 winners at bottom side Brodsworth with Jason Bentley and Duncan Bray getting two each for the away side.
Gareth Barlow struck all Barton Town Old Boys' four goals in their victory at Hemsworth Miners Welfare to climb into sixth.
Jon Impey got Hemworth's only goal from the penalty spot with five minutes remaining.
Glasshoughton Welfare were 6-0 winners over visitors Appleby Frodingham, Mark Newton with a hat-trick whilst Liam Radford netted twice and Paul Branton also got on the scoresheet.
And, Shirebrook Town's renaissance under new boss Rudy Funk continued with a 2-1 win at Eccleshill United, Simon Johnson and Darren Bettison's goals moving them up into eleventh position.
