NCEL 2010/11 Match Review #48

20th February, 2011

37 goals were scored in just the five games that beat the weather on what was a remarkable Saturday in the KoolSport Northern Counties East League.

The top scorers were Lincoln Moorlands Railway who won 8-2 at Armthorpe Welfare to climb up into seventh spot in the Premier Division.

Nathan Adams and Sean Cann both claimed hat-tricks, with Cann netting twice from the penalty spot, whilst Josh Schofield added two to their tally.

Armthorpe, who had Leo Fortune-West sent off towards the end of the first half, scored through David Buck and Henry Sibenge.

The other two top flight matches that survived the overnight heavy rain and snow saw victories for Bridlington Town and Tadcaster Albion.

Bridlington consolidated third spot by beating Maltby Main 4-2 at the Neil Hudgell Law Stadium.

They were three up by the 21st minute with James Bennett opening the scoring, Craig Palmer doubling their advantage and Craig Hogg getting the third with a penalty.

Simon Hickey struck before the hour mark to bring Maltby back into the game but Scott Phillips made sure of the win for the Seasiders with their fourth seven minutes from time before Scott Whittington grabbed an injury-time second for the visitors.

And, Tadcaster won 3-2 at Pickering Town despite trailing with two minutes to go.

It looked as though Liam Salt and Darren Clough had given the Pikes the victory after Rob Youhill had put the visitors ahead on five minutes.

But, Marc Thompson levelled as the game went towards second-half stoppage time and then, dramatically, the Brewers were awarded a spot kick which was converted by Carl Stewart and gave them a victory that moved them up into fifth place.

Third-placed Louth Town closed in on the top two in Division One with a 7-3 win at home to Hemsworth Miners Welfare.

They were 4-1 up by the interval with Jack Debnam, Steve Norton, Joe Harris and Mark Wood making the game theirs whilst Mike Spencer got the solitary strike for Hemsworth.

Debnam and Norton netted again whilst Sam Smith also got on the scoresheet to make it 7-1 before two goals in the last twenty minutes from Colin Williamson and Andrew Hayward made the result look a little bit more respectable for the visitors.

And, Grimsby Borough were beaten 6-0 at home by Rossington Main who climb out of the bottom four.

Liam Charlton gave Main a third minute lead before David Unsworth was sent off for the hosts and then Michael MacDonald and Charlton's second made it a 3-0 half-time lead for the visitors.

Jake Vernon added the fourth soon after the interval and Zeph Thomas' late double gave Rossington their biggest away win of the season.
