NCEL 2010/11 Match Review #51

3rd March, 2011

Thackley have reached the final of the Co-Operative West Riding County Cup after a stunning victory at EvoStik League side Goole AFC in midweek.

Matthew Mathers struck twice in what was a whirlwind start for the KoolSport NCEL Premier Division outfit as they raced into a 3-0 lead by the 21st minute.

Nicky Matthews converted their third before Gavin Allott pulled one back quickly for the hosts.

But, that is how it stayed until Luke Richardson made it 4-1 in injury time to send Thackley through to the final that will be against either FC Halifax Town or Guiseley at Bradford City's Coral Windows Stadium next month.

Pickering Town, however, missed out on a chance to reach the final of the North Riding Senior Cup as they were beaten 3-2 at home by Marske United in the last four.

In the Premier Division, fourth-placed Tadcaster Albion closed the gap on the top three with a 5-1 win at mid-table Brighouse Town.

They were two up by the break with goals from Tom Woollard and Graeme Whitehead.

Matthew Howgate and Stuart Rice then struck in quick succession to put the game beyond doubt before Alex Hallam grabbed a consolation for the home side.

Whitehead completed the scoring with his second and the Brewers move to within fourteen points of leaders Farsley AFC with four games in hand.

Scarborough Athletic's fine run of form continued as their 3-1 victory at home to Winterton Rangers made it six wins in a row for Paul Olsson's side.

Gary Hepples put them ahead early on before Ryan Blott and Bill Law added their second and third after the interval and Daniel Smith struck in the final ten minutes for Winterton.

Selby Town were the top scorers of midweek as they beat next-to-bottom Dinnington Town 7-2 at the Rigid Group Stadium.

Gary Nimmo netted four times whilst Liam Davis nabbed a brace and Chaz Wrigley also got on the scoresheet for the Robins.

An Ernest Boafo double, one from the spot, earned Nostell Miners Welfare a 2-1 win at Liversedge and Armthorpe Welfare beat hosts Maltby Main 2-0.

Staveley Miners Welfare have moved eleven points clear at the top of Division One after a second-half Andrew Fox hat-trick secured them a 3-2 victory at home to Handsworth.

There were high scores all round with Grimsby Borough prevailing 4-3 in a thriller at third-placed Louth Town, Lewis Buckthorpe getting the winner in injury time.

AFC Emley shared the spoils with Appleby Frodingham in a 3-3 draw whilst Leeds Carnegie came from behind to win 3-2 at home to Shirebrook Town.

Pontefract Collieries are through to the Third Round of the Wilkinson Sword Trophy as two goals each for Duncan Bray and Ryan Poskitt helped them to a 5-3 victory over visitors Hemsworth Miners Welfare.

And, Rossington Main and Glasshoughton Welfare are the first teams to progress to the semi-finals after winning 1-0 and 2-0 at home to Barton Town Old Boys and Yorkshire Amateur, respectively.
