NCEL 2010/11 Match Review #52

6th March, 2011

With the KoolSport NCEL Premier Division's top side Farsley AFC not in action, it was a chance for the chasing pack to close the gap on Saturday.

And, their closest rivals both obliged in what is turning into an unpredictable title chase.

A Chris Wood hat-trick saw Parkgate come from two goals down to win 3-2 at Selby Town after the hosts had come out of the traps with strikes from Paul Ashton and Gary Nimmo in the opening seventeen minutes.

Bridlington Town, meanwhile, also had to come from behind to beat fourth-placed visitors Tadcaster Albion, 3-1.

Tom Woollard had the Brewers ahead on just four minutes but goals after the hour mark from Craig Palmer, Scott Phillips and Phil Harrison saw the hosts finish the stronger.

Parkgate are now seven points behind Farsley with three games in hand whilst Bridlington are ten points away from the top having played five matches fewer.

The battle for Premier Division survival is also hotting up as the season goes into its final two months.

Arnold Town were the only side out of the bottom four to pick up a point, drawing 1-1 at Brighouse Town after Mark Smith had given them a 21st minute lead.

Damian Hopkins struck the home team's equaliser in the second period to ensure the spoils were shared.

Basement side Hallam went down 4-2 at Pickering Town and are now six points away from eighteenth-placed Arnold.

But, next-to-bottom Dinnington Town seem to be in a much worse position as a 1-0 defeat at Long Eaton United, courtesy of Martin Bowles' 46th-minute goal, leaves them three points away from the foot of the table having played seven games more than Hallam.

And, Liversedge stay seventeenth having lost 2-0 at the side just above them, Hall Road Rangers.

Lincoln Moorlands Railway have closed in on a top four spot after their 4-1 win at Nostell Miners Welfare.

James Eyles had put the hosts ahead on ten minutes but Jack Cotton and Tom Garrick made sure the visitors had the lead by the break.

They built on that with further goals from Nathan Adams and Sean Cann in the second period.

Winterton Rangers drew 1-1 at Maltby Main whilst Thackley ended Scarborough Athletic's winning streak as Matthew Morgan's strike three minutes from time settled a tight game, 1-0, in the hosts' favour.

The top two in Division One remain favourites for promotion as they both won.

Leaders Staveley Miners Welfare beat visitors Bottesford Town 1-0 to keep nine points clear at the summit, Aymen Tahar with the goal on 67 minutes.

Yorkshire Amateur were 3-1 winners at Shirebrook Town and are now seven points ahead of third-placed Louth Town who did not play.

The Ammers found themselves a goal down on seventeen minutes from Jeremy Mitchell but Chris Hitchins converted a first-half injury-time penalty to level the scores.

Leroy McIntosh and Curtis Bernard then netted after the interval to claim the three points.

Glasshoughton Welfare closed the gap on the top three with a 5-0 win at Grimsby Borough whilst fifth-placed Leeds Carnegie were 4-2 victors over visitors Teversal.

David Cockerill was the hat-trick hero for Handsworth in their 4-1 win at home to Askern Villa whilst Lee Snodin's brace for Worsbrough Bridge Athletic earned his side a 2-1 victory at Appleby Frodingham.

AFC Emley won by a single goal at home to Eccleshill United and Barton Town Old Boys picked up three points at Pontefract Collieries with the only goal of the game in the 89th minute from Gareth Barlow.

And, Jake Vernon struck twice for Rossington Main in their 3-1 home victory over Hemsworth Miners Welfare.
