NCEL 2010/11 Match Review #55

18th March, 2011

Liversedge, Scarborough Athletic and Hall Road Rangers all booked their places in the last eight of the KoolSport NCEL League Cup with victories in a busy midweek.

Liversedge's victory was perhaps the biggest surprise as they beat high-flying visitors Bridlington Town, 2-0, courtesy of late goals from Chris Hanny and Jamie Wasley.

Scarborough beat their Division One opponents, Bottesford Town, 3-0 at the Neil Hudgell Law Stadium.

Richard Medcalf netted in the opening three minutes whilst Ryan Blott's brace early in the second period ensured a comfortable night for the Seadogs.

And, Daniel Clarke's winner three minutes from time saw Hall Road progress at home to Long Eaton United by a single goal.

Second half doubles from both Carl Spencer and Tony Law claimed the win for Arnold Town in their much-delayed Second Round tie with Eccleshill United on Thursday.

They triumphed 4-2 in a battle of the Eagles at Eagle Valley after the away side had gone two up after 26 minutes with both their goals coming from Andy Howland.

It was a mixed midweek for Arnold after they were knocked out of the Notts Senior Cup two days earlier, 2-0 at Carlton Town in the Quarter-Finals.

Pontefract Collieries and Louth Town both came through tight Wilkinson Sword Trophy Third Round clashes to move into the Semi-Finals.

Ponte won 3-2 on penalties after their game finished 2-2 after extra time.

And, a Bruno Holden hat-trick saw Louth through 3-2 after extra-time at Shirebrook Town.

The score at 90 minutes was 2-2 with Joe Naylor striking twice from the penalty spot for Rudy Funk's side.

In the Premier Division, Lincoln Moorlands Railway moved up into fourth spot with a 2-0 home win over Thackley, Tom Garrick and Josh Schofield with the first half goals.

Handsworth remain sixth in Division One after their 2-0 victory at Leeds Carnegie on Monday night.

And, Barton Town Old Boys stayed one point behind them in seventh with their 3-1 win at bottom side Brodsworth Welfare on Wednesday, Gareth Barlow netting twice for the visitors.

Heavy fog claimed two of the midweek fixtures with Hallam's Premier Division clash against Selby abandoned after 25 minutes and the Division One match between AFC Emley and Glasshoughton Welfare postponed before kick-off.
