NCEL 2010/11 Match Review #61

8th April, 2011

Farsley AFC are now twelve points clear at the top of the KoolSport NCEL Premier Division table after Thursday night's 3-1 win at next-to-bottom Hallam.

Even though the chasing pack of Parkgate and Bridlington Town have games in hand on them, the Throstle Nest side must now be considered strong favourites to lift the trophy.

Ben Jones' thirteenth-minute goal gave them the perfect start at Sandygate whilst Dominic Krief doubled their advantage early in the second period.

Martin Brissett pulled one back almost immediately for Hallam but Jones' second on 51 minutes made sure of the victory.

It was a good midweek for Farsley as, forty-eight hours earlier, they also progressed into the last eight of the League Cup with a 5-0 home win over Arnold Town.

Anil Singh scored in the first half whilst Scott Driscoll made it two on 47 minutes.

Then, three goals late on, two from Gareth Grant and one from Jones, made it ultimately a comfortable evening and Farsley now face Liversedge in the next round.

Meanwhile, the other three Quarter-Final ties were played with Scarborough Athletic, Handsworth and Winterton Rangers all going through to the final four.

James Webb's extra-time winner saw Scarborough progress by a single goal at home to Hall Road Rangers.

Handsworth defeated Division One champions Staveley Miners Welfare in a penalty shoot-out after 120 minutes of football had finished 0-0.

And, a Danny Barlow brace helped Winterton beat visitors Pickering Town, 3-1.

Tadcaster Albion will face Farsley in the Final of the President's Cup after they beat Bridlington Town on Tuesday, Steven Jeff with the only goal of the game after just two minutes.

The chase for second spot in Division One is hotting up with both Barton Town Old Boys and Pontefract Collieries winning.

Simon Spencer and Gareth Barlow found the net, one in each half, for Barton in a 2-0 win at Askern Villa.

And, Will Turl struck ten minutes from time to give Pontefract a 1-0 victory at home to Bottesford Town.

It means that they both keep on the coattails of Yorkshire Amateur who currently hold the runners-up place.

Glasshoughton Welfare moved up to sixth with a 3-1 victory at AFC Emley whilst Leeds Carnegie climbed to eighth by beating visitors Eccleshill United, 3-2.

And, Worsbrough Bridge Athletic won 1-0 at home to Shirebrook Town, courtesy of a 62nd minute winner from Tom Copping.
