Toolstation NCEL Match Review 2019/20 #2

11th August, 2019

The Emirates FA Cup for the 2019/20 season began at the weekend with 26 Toolstation NCEL teams all dreaming of progressing far in the competition but, as always, fortunes varied wildly for our sides.

There were four all-NCEL Extra Preliminary Round ties with Division One hosts Winterton Rangers upsetting Premier Division visitors Grimsby Borough 2-1,

Joshua Nichol and Adam Baskerville put Rangers into a two-goal lead by the 32nd minute and, although Joshua Venney pulled one back for Borough, the home side held on to go through to the next stage later this month.

A Leon Howarth hat-trick helped Handsworth to a 4-1 victory at Thackley, Marley Grant with their other goal whilst Jerome White netted for the Dennyboys.

Goole AFC were 3-0 winners at Hall Road Rangers, Reagan Waud's double added to by Joshua Schofield to send the Vikings through.

And, in Sunday's game, a couple of late goals from Kurtis Morley saw Staveley Miners Welfare progress at the expense of their hosts Hallam.

Two NCEL sides picked up huge wins over Northern Premier League sides with Hemsworth Miners Welfare cantering to a 4-0 triumph at Kendal Town.

Jason Yates and Luke Danville had them two-up by the interval with Adam Knight and Jason Davies adding to the scoreline in the second period.

And, Barton Town defeated visitors Carlton Town 3-2, Reece Moody's double and a Ben Hinchliffe strike sending them through but the mood was dampened when Hinchliffe later required hospital treatment for an injury.

The biggest win of the afternoon was secured by AFC Mansfield who thumped hosts Sleaford Town 7-0 with Ross Duggan grabbing five of the Bulls' goals.

Maltby Main and Bridlington Town also won on their travels, Steven Hopewell and Aaron Moxam netting for Maltby in the last fifteen minutes to secure a 4-2 victory at Shepshed Dynamo.

Meanwhile, a Joe McFadyen double in the final quarter of the game saw Bridlington prevail 3-1 at West Auckland Town.

Eccleshill United and Liversedge also went through to the next stage, Antony Brown's brace helping Eccleshill beat visitors Bootle 2-1 whilst Joe Walton and Michael Bottomley both netted twice as Sedge won 5-1 at home to Abbey Hey.

There will be four midweek replays after Penistone Church drew 1-1 at Skelmersdale United in Friday night's match, Silsden and Nostell Miners Welfare picked up 2-2 scorelines at Northwich Victoria and at home to Stockton Town, respectively.

And, there was a goalless game for Garforth Town in their trip to Shildon.

But, the FA Cup adventure is over for another season for Albion Sports, Athersley Recreation, Bottesford Town, Campion, Harrogate Railway Athletic, Knaresborough Town and Yorkshire Amateur following defeats.

The Division One sides not involved in the cup all played their second league match of the season on Saturday.

Retford FC and Parkgate are the early pacesetters having won their opening two games.

Shay Evans-Booth's hat-trick and an Adam Scott strike saw Retford win 4-1 at home to Brigg Town whilst an injury time winner from Jonathan Fusco, his second goal of the game, grabbed Parkgate a 3-2 home victory over Glasshoughton Welfare.

North Ferriby picked up their first win as they beat neighbours East Hull 3-0 at Dunswell Park, Tom Corner's hat-trick settling the clash in the Villagers' favour.

Daniel Brooks set Skegness Town on their way to a 3-1 home win over Rossington Main with an own goal from visiting keeper Jan Budjz and a Gary King strike adding to their tally.

Liam Flanagan's 80th minute winner ensured a dramatic 3-2 victory at home for Selby Town against Dronfield Town whilst Armthorpe Welfare beat hosts Swallownest 3-0 with goals from Liam Radford, Jordan Snodin and Tyler Walker.

And, it was honours even at the FastFrame as hosts Ollerton Town took the lead through Benjamin Partridge on 32 minutes but Sam Corner quickly levelled for Worsbrough Bridge Athletic in a game that finished 1-1.
