Toolstation NCEL Match Review 2019/20 #3

15th August, 2019

Garforth Town progressed to the Preliminary Round of the Emirates FA Cup but their fellow Toolstation NCEL sides Silsden, Penistone Church and Nostell Miners Welfare all bowed out in midweek replays.

All four Extra Preliminary Round ties were full of goals with Garforth coming twice from behind to win 3-2 at home to Northern League visitors Shildon.

Sean Hunter netted on both occasions, first on 58 and then eight minutes later after their opponents had regained the lead on the hour mark, before Curtly Martin-Wyatt claimed what would prove to be the winner midway through the second period.

Silsden went 3-0 down after just 33 minutes at home to North West Counties League side Northwich Victoria but battled back to restore parity going into the final quarter of the game, courtesy of goals from Liam Hudson, Aiden Kirby and Khurram Shazad.

But, it was the away side who would go through as they grabbed an 88th minute winner to make it a 4-3 victory.

Penistone, meanwhile, were beaten 5-2 at home by Skelmersdale United, Thomas Cadzow and Nathan Keightley with Church's goals against North West Counties League opposition, and Danny Edwards put Nostell ahead at Stockton Town but their Northern League hosts ran out 5-1 winners.

Elsewhere, NCEL newcomers North Ferriby moved to the top of the early Division One table as Jamie Forrester struck the only goal of the game as a crowd of 386 watched the Villagers beat Parkgate who had won their opening two games.

Selby Town are now second after their 3-2 victory at Glasshoughton Welfare, Daniel Walker, Liam Flanagan and Joe Dale putting them in control after Ashley Bell had put the hosts ahead on 23 minutes.

Ryan Hallsworth bagged a second for Welfare on 70 but that ended up just being a consolation goal for the home side.

Elliott Broughton struck late on to give Winterton Rangers a 1-0 victory at Skegness Town, a win that sees Rangers climb up into fourth.

Harrogate Railway Athletic also won on their travels, a Joe Jagger penalty and a Luke McCrum strike securing a 2-1 defeat of hosts Armthorpe Welfare who pulled one back from the spot through Liam Radford.

Another side savouring victory away from home were Hall Road Rangers who trailed 2-1 at Ollerton Town by the interval, Conor Higginson's penalty and Aaron Sennett-Neilson putting the hosts seemingly in control before an injury-time lifeline was provided by Conner Harman.

Ollerton were reduced to ten men and Rangers took full advantage with Richard Medcalf and Dan O'Connor getting on the scoresheet in the last seven minutes for a 3-2 win.

Brigg Town raced into a 2-0 lead with Jake Reed scoring twice in the opening fourteen minutes but Adam Shaw halved the deficit on 55 for hosts Campion and Omar Habeeb snatched an injury-time equaliser as the two sides shared goals and gained a point apiece.

Meanwhile, Worsbrough Bridge Athletic's home game was abandoned early in the second period due to floodlight failure with visitors Hallam leading 4-0.
