Toolstation NCEL Match Review 2019/20 #5

22nd August, 2019

Goole AFC have maintained their hundred percent start to the 2019/20 Toolstation NCEL Premier Division season with a 2-1 home victory over Bottesford Town in midweek.

James Faulkner put the Vikings ahead towards the end of the first half before Joshua Schofield doubled their advantage late in the second period with the visitors pulling a goal back in stoppage time through Dayle Hutson.

Goole are the only side to have won their first three games in the division whilst Garforth Town and Liversedge are unbeaten.

Mark Simpson put Garforth ahead at Knaresborough Town in the sixth minute but Luke Harrop's equaliser midway through the second half ensured a point apiece in a 1-1 draw.

Liversedge, meanwhile, were 1-0 home victors over Penistone Church with Joe Walton grabbing the only goal of the game after ten minutes.

Albion Sports head a group of six teams on six points after a Marcel Chigumira brace and an Alhassan Keita strike, all in the first half, claimed a 3-0 win at home to Hemsworth Miners Welfare that leapfrogged the Lions over their opponents into fourth on goal difference ahead of Hemsworth are eighth.

There was also a 3-0 home victory for Yorkshire Amateur as Brice Tiani netted twice and Ashley Flynn also got on the scoresheet in a win over Maltby Main.

Liam Higton got both of Grimsby Borough's goals, one from the penalty spot, in a 2-1 defeat of visitors Staveley Miners Welfare.

AFC Mansfield are just behind the Wilderness Boys in seventh after Ross Duggan took his season's tally to eleven goals as his double made sure that the Bulls won 2-0 at home to Eccleshill United.

And, Silsden are the remaining team on six points in ninth spot after a 2-1 home loss to Thackley, Jack Normanton and Charlie Flaherty claiming the victory for the away side after Aiden Kirby had given the hosts a 28th minute lead.

The top scorers in midweek were Bridlington Town with a Joe McFadyen hat-trick, two for Joseph Danby and a Benn Lewis goal in a 6-1 home win over Athersley Recreation.

The Rec are bottom having lost their opening three games, alongside Barton Town who went down 3-1 at Handsworth, Leon Howarth scoring two of the home side's goals for their first victory of the campaign.

Winterton Rangers are the Division One table-toppers as they made it a maximum twelve points from their four games so far, Kieran Wressell and Luke Anderson netting either side of the interval in a 2-0 home victory against Harrogate Railway Athletic.

The most remarkable match, though, came at Babworth Road where hosts Retford FC found themselves 4-0 down to Dronfield Town after 32 minutes, Stuart Hill, Samuel Bebbington twice and Ethan Flower with the goals.

And, that is how it stayed until the last eighteen minutes when the home side produced the greatest of comebacks, through two each from Shay Evans-Booth and Jack Johnson, to take a point from the game in a 4-4 draw.

Retford move up into third just ahead of Nostell Miners Welfare who are fourth after a 6-0 victory at basement side East Hull, Kane Reece's double added to by goals from Jack Waldron, Richard Collier, Rhys Meynell and Calum Ward.

Simon Harrison scored twice to move Parkgate up into fifth with a 3-1 home win over Hall Road Rangers whilst Jordan Turner also claimed two goals in a 3-1 victory at home for Hallam at the expense of Glasshoughton Welfare who have lost all of their opening five games.
