Toolstation NCEL Match Review 2019/20 #18

10th October, 2019

A 3-0 win at Bottesford Town on Wednesday night has seen Staveley Miners Welfare become the latest leaders of the Toolstation NCEL Premier Division.

All of the goals came in a frantic opening twenty minutes as Sam Finlaw broke the deadlock before Adam Lund and Michael Burke gave the Trojans a perfect start at their hosts who stay seventeenth.

Staveley, who have won five of their last six league matches, leap above Grimsby Borough to the summit.

The rest of the midweek action saw a number of our sides in County Cup action, with Dronfield Town bowing out 1-0 at home to South Normanton Athletic in the Second Round of the Derbyshire Senior Cup.

Hallam, Hemsworth Miners Welfare and Penistone Church, meanwhile, progressed from the same stage of the Sheffield & Hallamshire Senior Cup but Parkgate fell by the wayside in a 5-1 loss at Northern Premier League hosts Stocksbridge Park Steels.

Jordan Turner's late penalty saw Hallam through against Houghton Main after Will Wraith's opener had been cancelled out whilst Sidney Santos, Matthew Hughes, Nash Connolly, Luke Hogg and Samuel Leach netted for Hemsworth in a 5-1 victory over Renishaw Rangers.

Penistone, however, enjoyed the greatest size of victory as two each for Nathan Keightley, Billy Law and Andrew Ring, added to by strikes from Thomas Cadzow and Bradley Kemp, secured an 8-0 victory over visitors Burngreave, with six of the goals coming before the interval.

Armthorpe Welfare are through to the next stage of the West Riding County Cup after a 5-3 home win over league rivals Selby Town in their First Round tie.

Welfare led 2-1 at the break through Luke Williams and Darren Mansaram before Alex Burton got one back in the 44th minute, and then Jordan Snodin, Ryan Poskitt and Williams' second ensured the win for the hosts whilst Christopher Jackson and Liam Flanagan got on the scoresheet for the Robins.

There was disappointment for Glasshoughton Welfare, Harrogate Railway Athletic and Silsden as they were beaten at Pontefract Collieries, at home to Brighouse Town, and away at Barnoldswick Town, respectively.

And, two matches were called off as Handsworth's pitch was unfit for their Sheffield & Hallamshire Senior Cup clash with Swinton Athletic whilst a waterlogged surface put paid to Garforth Town's trip to Eccleshill United.
