Yorkshire Amateur and Bottesford Town served up a nine-goal thriller in an all-Toolstation NCEL Second Round tie in the Buildbase FA Vase on a Saturday afternoon that had otherwise been badly hit by wet weather for the second successive weekend. The Ammers started off quickly at the Southerns Stadium with Fernando Moke and Ashley Flynn putting them 2-0 within the first eleven minutes before Daniel Boulton halved the deficit for the visitors - all in the opening quarter of the tie.
Flynn's second of the afternoon gave the home side a 3-1 half-time advantage and both teams added a goal early in the second period, firstly Henry Cook for Bottesford and then Moke's second, to make it 4-2.
Bottesford's top scorer Jack McMenemy then dramatically brought his side level with a double in the final twenty minutes but, as an extra half-hour loomed, Matthew Sykes popped up in injury time to snatch a 5-4 win for the Ammers.
Things were less dramatic for
Grimsby Borough at North West Counties League side Rylands, Lewis Bemrose's 30th minute decider separating the sides in a single-goal victory for the Wilderness Boys.
And,
AFC Mansfield will join them in Monday's Third Round draw after a 3-1 victory over Long Buckby in a match that was played at Clipstone FC's ground due to a fireworks display taking place at the Forest Town Stadium in the evening.
The tie sparkled into life in the last quarter with Brandon Webster putting the Bulls ahead on 67 and their lead was quickly doubled by Luke Walker.
Their United Counties League opponents pulled one back but Connor McMillan made sure of the victory in stoppage time for Matt Chatfield's side.
Meanwhile,
Selby Town's home clash with
Bridlington Town was one of ten games involving NCEL sides that were postponed due to a waterlogged pitch and they will now meet in midweek.
Three games survived the heavy rain in the Premier Division with
Penistone Church narrowly winning 4-3 at home to
Maltby Main to move to the top of the table.
Church surged to a 4-0 lead by the hour mark with goals from Ashley Ellis, Shaun Mundy, Jordan Coduri and Danny Howes but Main almost produced an amazing comeback as Aaron Moxam struck twice, once from the penalty spot, and Jonathan Hill netted on 89 to make it a nervy last few minutes for the hosts.
Garforth Town are up to eighth following a 4-1 victory at bottom side
Athersley Recreation, Sam Barker's double added to by Helmo Mendes da Cruz Silva and Sean Hunter with the Rec's goal coming courtesy of an equaliser from Alex Hutchinson.
And, six goals were shared between
Albion Sports and
Silsden with Lamin Janneh and Aidan Kirkby each scoring twice for the home and away sides, respectively, whilst Luke Aldrich also found the net for the Lions and Arley Barnes did likewise for the Cobbydalers.
The games
Eccleshill United v
Liversedge,
Hemsworth Miners Welfare v
Handsworth,
Staveley Miners Welfare v
Goole AFC and
Thackley v
Barton Town were all postponed.
In Division One,
Skegness Town are now six points clear at the summit after goals from Ben Davison and Gary King at either end of their home clash with
Brigg Town saw them claim a 2-1 win with Stuart Longbone scoring the Zebras' equaliser on 32.
Winterton Rangers stay fourth, seven points off the top, following their 2-1 victory at
Rossington Main, Callum Foster and Jaime Ture putting them 2-0 up before Tyla Bell brought the hosts back into the game.
Nostell Miners Welfare and
Glasshoughton Welfare climb the tables as they also claimed wins, Nostell's 3-1 defeat of hosts
Retford FC moving them up to sixth thanks to a Rhys Meynell penalty and goals from Kane Reece and Calum Ward after Will Tomlinson had given the Choughs a fifth minute lead.
And, Glasshoughton are now tenth after they were 2-1 winners at home to
Harrogate Railway Athletic, taking the points with an injury-time winner from Nathan Perks after their opener from Mark Ferguson had been cancelled out by Patrick Sykes.
North Ferriby's home clash with
Swallownest was abandoned on 77 minutes due to floodlight failure, with the Villagers leading 2-0 over their visitors.
Meanwhile, four games fell victim to the weather with
Dronfield Town v
Campion,
Hallam v
East Hull,
Parkgate v
Ollerton Town and
Worsbrough Bridge Athletic v
Hall Road Rangers all called off.
And, there was also disappointment in the League Cup as
Armthorpe Welfare's home Third Round tie with
Knaresborough Town fell to the same fate.
