Toolstation NCEL Match Review 2019/20 #46

30th January, 2020

Staveley Miners Welfare's fourth successive victory extended their lead at the top of the Toolstation NCEL Premier Division to two points in midweek.

Brett Marshall's side were 4-0 winners at home to Albion Sports, a brace each from Jonathan Froggatt and Matthew Parkin in the opening half making it an ultimately comfortable night for the Trojans.

They open the gap over Liversedge, whose home game with Thackley was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch, and Penistone Church, who drew 2-2 at title rivals Yorkshire Amateur.

Penistone twice led at the Southerns Stadium through Jordan Coduri and Tom Charlesworth, but a penalty from Ashley Flynn and an 80th minute strike from Aiden Savory twice brought the home side back level to make it a point apiece.

Church climb above Liversedge into second whilst the Ammers move up a spot into fourth, six points off the summit.

Those two games were played on Wednesday night whilst, 24 hours earlier, three matches took place in the top flight with much-needed victories for Silsden and AFC Mansfield.

Silsden climb three places to thirteenth after their 2-0 home win over basement side Athersley Recreation, Myles Foley and Laurence Surhaindo with the goals in the last twenty minutes of the match.

Mansfield remain in eighteenth spot but their third win in four league games mean they are now eleven points clear of the drop zone.

Grant Ryan, Ross Duggan and Morgan James netted in the second period in a 3-0 defeat of visitors Garforth Town who drop to tenth.

Maltby Main struck first in their match at Handsworth, Rory Coleman in the 80th minute, but the home side quickly restored parity through Alfie Eagle and the 1-1 draw means the sides are eighth and fifteenth, respectively.

In Division One, North Ferriby have moved back up into the promotion places as Brody Robertson and Andrew Taylor secured them a 2-0 home win over Swallownest.

The Villagers are now fourth, leapfrogging Campion whose trip to Worsbrough Bridge Athletic was another victim to bad weather.

Third-placed Selby Town closed the gap to leaders Winterton Rangers to five points with a 4-1 win at Parkgate in a game that was 1-1 until three goals in eight minutes around the hour mark gave the away side the victory.

Carl Stewart's penalty put the Robins ahead before Brett Lucas and Luke Sellers secured the points at the expense of the Steelmen who stay twelfth.

And, Rossington Main have leapt up five places to thirteenth after their 2-0 win at Hallam, Niall Doran's penalty on 60 minutes added to late on by Zephaniah Thomas to put them eleven points above the bottom two.

In county cup action, Goole AFC pulled off an upset as they progressed to the quarter-finals of the West Riding County Cup at the expense of their Northern Premier League hosts Pontefract Collieries.

Devonte Newman-Morton's equaliser on 82 minutes made it 2-2 after Reagan Waud got the Vikings opener in the first half, leading to a penalty shoot-out that was won 4-2 by the NCEL Premier Division side.

Meanwhile, Ollerton Town bowed out in a 4-1 extra-time loss at East Midlands Counties League leaders Eastwood Community, Sam Foulds with the goal in a match that was 1-1 at 90 minutes before the home side raced to victory in the added half-hour.
