Toolstation NCEL Match Review 2019/20 #54

27th February, 2020

Premier Division tabletoppers Staveley Miners Welfare suffered their second defeat in a row in one of just two Toolstation NCEL matches that survived the bad weather in midweek.

Twelve games were scheduled to take place but ten fell victim to waterlogged pitches as a frustrating season for postponements continued.

Staveley had an opportunity to move six points clear at the summit at home to Silsden but their visitors raced into a 2-0 lead by the 32nd minute.

Khurram Shazad's opener was quickly added to by Laurence Surhaindo to stun the hosts who pulled one back on 68 minutes through Michael Burke.

But, the points were secured soon afterwards for the Cobbydalers by Shazad's second to claim a 3-1 win that gives Silsden a five point cushion in thirteenth spot.

The other game to take place saw relegation-threatened Harrogate Railway Athletic travel to Nostell Miners Welfare trying to close the gap to safety to seven points in Division One.

But, a second yellow card for Aiden Kearsley saw the Rail reduced to ten men in the 34th minute and their hosts took full advantage with Liam Owen opening the scoring moments later.

Calum Ward then sealed a 2-0 victory just after the hour mark to give Nostell a win that moves them up three places to ninth in the table.
