New Look Bottesford Ready For Iron

7th July, 2010

Bottesford Town will be extending a very warm welcome to the members and supporters of Scunthorpe United at Birch Park on Saturday.

Kick-off is at 3pm with admission priced at ?5 for adults and ?3 for concessions.

This will be the second occasion that Nigel Adkins has brought his players to Birch Park and Bottesford hope it will long continue to be an ongoing and supportive event for both the club and the local community.

The summer of 2010 saw a number of players leave the Iron once their contracts had expired, while a couple also joined the club.

Paul Hayes (Preston), Marcus Williams (Reading), Grant McCann (Peterborough) and Matt Sparrow (Brighton) were the most notable departures on Bosman free transfers.

Chris Dagnall (Rochdale) and Bobby Grant (Accrington) both joined and look poised to make their first appearances for the club during the game.

Manager Nigel Adkins continues to bid to strengthen his squad ahead of the new season, and confidence is high that Scunthorpe United can stay up once again in the Championship.

There have also been a number of changes to the first team structure from last season at Bottesford.

The club's management team have identified that there had been a shortfall in their Football Development Plans to support the continual progression of players from the U16 teams up to the first team.

So, they have introduced an U19 team who will feature this season in the Northern Alliance League.

This strategy will hopefully complete the link on a long term basis whilst the present change of direction has provided more opportunities for local players to feature in the first team.

To manage the 'change', Bottesford Town has engaged the services of Ian (Chalky) Whyte to take control of Youth Development at Birch Park and he has also taken on board the role of first team head coach.

Chalky is well known in local circles having had a distinguished playing career with senior non league clubs in Lincolnshire before being employed in the professional game in youth coaching positions with Scunthorpe United, Lincoln City, Nottingham Forest, Derby County and more recently Portsmouth.

Chairman Tony Reeve said: "The club is continually seeking support from both local businesses and members of the public which can be in the form of just 'watching us play' or via a number of sponsorship opportunities that are available aimed to further develop our facilities and support the development of the first team and the remainder of the 25 teams that form our Community Club."
