England Band Comes To Handsworth
1st September, 2010
The Official England Supporters Band will be attending Handsworth's KoolSport NCEL Division One home match on Saturday.
They are at the clash with Barton Town Old Boys to celebrate both the national Non League Day and Sheffield's "Back The 2018 Bid" World Cup campaign.
The band will be at Wembley for the England game on Friday night for the Euro 2012 qualifier against Bulgaria before flying over to Switzerland on Tuesday with, of course, the big game at Oliver Mount sandwiched in between.
England Band Director Steve Holmes commented: "We are so proud to have been asked to play at Handsworth, who typify all that is good in non-league football.
"They have made a great start to their NCEL first ever campaign and, with their tie up with the Back the Bid campaign and Sean Bean's appointment as director, the club is making great strides...something that everyone connected with Handsworth FC should be very proud of."
The band have been ever present at every England game since 1997 and have played for England more times than a certain Mr. Beckham!!
The author of the band's new book Playing For England, John Hemmingham, will be on hand to sign copies of the book which chronicles the early years of the band's exploits.
League new boys Handsworth are aiming for a bumper crowd at Olivers Mount which has already seen two 4-0 returns from their first two games.
The big game kicks off at 3pm.
