Villa Given Temporary Ground Grading

16th May, 2011

A temporary 'G' grade has been given to KoolSport NCEL Division One Askern Villa's ground.

It's because the changing room facilities are waiting for repair after they were broken into earlier this year but they should be up and running for the 2011-12 season.

At the moment, the main stand seats 96 but there are plans to extend that in the near future.

The club purchased 150 seats from Chesterfield earlier this season and have now purchased a further 100 from Scarborough's McCain Stadium.

Plans have been made for work to be carried out on the playing surface during the summer which will probably mean that the club will have to play friendlies away in the build up for next season.

The next step will be to improve the driveway into the ground and this will be a joint venture with the cricket club and Villa will be looking for funding opportunities.

Villa have also renewed their call for new blood on the committee.

They are after people with various skills to take Askern Villa forward, whether it be working on ground maintenance, fundraising or even the general running of the club.

MEANWHILE, the club announced that they will continue to run tribute nights at Askern Welfare but on a more regular basis.

The events are the brainchild of secretary Dave Hall, with chairman Ted Ellis saying: "We are struggling under the current financial climate to secure sufficient monies through sponsorship to fund the running of the first team in the Northern Counties East League.

"We have tried various fundraising schemes but none bring in the revenue required.

"Dave had the idea of putting on a tribute acts and we have had three tribute nights this season and they have proved to be popular."

The tribute nights will take place every month on Friday nights and will feature the UK's top tribute acts covering well known bands such as Kaiser Chiefs, Blur, U2, Kasabian, Housemartins/Beautiful South, The Jam, Stereophonics and the Arctic Monkeys.

The next tribute night will be on Friday 20th May and it will be a double header, The Kaiser Chiefs & Blur.

Tickets are ?5 and are on sale at Askern Welfare or contact Dave Hall on 07799 752890.
