Tributes paid to Mick Balmforth
15th October, 2019
The Toolstation NCEL is saddened to hear of the passing of Liversedge life member Mick Balmforth.
He had served the Premier Division club for 33 years, holding the roles of secretary, groundsman and programme editor amongst others, having joined the club in 1978 when they were in the Yorkshire League.
The Spenborough Guardian reports that Mick bought all his own equipment and machinery, including several mowers and all of the petrol, out of his own pocket to save the club money.
He would also book every Friday afternoon off work to prepare the field for Saturday fixtures.
Bob Gawthorpe, who knew Mick for over fifty years, told the local paper: "He was very quiet, he just got on with it.
"He was a very intelligent man. He liked being in the fresh air and the freedom of it, and was very happy doing what he did."
All at the league would like to send our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Mick, who passed away in September, and also to everyone at Liversedge.
