Hemsworth manager steps down

19th November, 2019

Hemsworth Miners Welfare have announced that they have received and accepted the resignation of their first team manager, Wayne Benn.

The news comes as a surprise with Hemsworth currently pushing for promotion in the Toolstation NCEL Premier Division and it is the second departure from the club this month after club chairman Richard Norman stepped down last week.

Benn's assistant Andy Hayward is also leaving but Andy Hart will remain as first team coach.

A club statement revealed that the resignation took place on Monday and they paid tribute to their departing boss, saying: "Benn, who was in his second spell as manager of the club, has been fundamental in the development of the side and will always be held in high regard following promotion to the NCEL Premier Division in 2016 and the improvement season-on-season since promotion.

"We would like to place on record our thanks to Wayne and his team for their commitment and contribution to the football club during their time with us.

"Benn and Hayward leave the club sat in third position in the league and well-placed to push for one of the three promotion places available.

"This is the second significant resignation the club has been faced with within the last two weeks.

"However, we would like to reiterate to our supporters that this does not change the vision of the club and we are committed to continue what we have started which is to finish as high as possible within the league this season with a promotion spot still the overall target for the season.

"Following the resignation of the club chairman last week, we had already planned to meet with supporters at 1:30pm on Saturday 23rd November in the ground floor of the Mark Crapper Suite to update everyone on the chairman situation.

"Unfortunately, we will also have to update on the manager's position at the same time.

"In the immediate future, Steven Jeff and Luke Danville will take over the management side of the first team with Andy Hart and we hope we can, as always, count on the full support of our loyal supporters at this time.

"A further announcement regarding the role will be made in due course."
