Toolstation NCEL Match Review 2020/21 #9

12th October, 2020

Seven Toolstation NCEL sides won at the weekend to make sure that they will be in the hat for Monday's draw for the First Round Proper of this season's Buildbase FA Vase.

They will join AFC Mansfield, Bridlington Town, Grimsby Borough and Yorkshire Amateur who come into the competition at the next stage that is due to be played at the end of October.

Liversedge and Winterton Rangers will also be in the draw after their games were postponed, Sedge's due to COVID-19 precautions for their visitors Ashton Athletic whilst Rangers' match at New Mills was called off due to a waterlogged pitch, and both ties will now be played this weekend.

Hemsworth Miners Welfare, Harrogate Railway Athletic and Hallam progressed at the expense of league rivals with Joshua Wright, Silas Valladolid-Collins and Matthew Hughes netting for Hemsworth in a 3-0 victory over Nostell Miners Welfare in a game that had been switched to Nostell's ground.

The Rail, meanwhile, were 1-0 winners at Thackley as the Division One visitors beat their Premier Division hosts with a tenth minute decider from Joseph Crosby, and goals from Kieran Watson, Iren Wilson and Liam Wilson saw Hallam through 3-1 at home to Parkgate after the Steelmen had taken an early lead through Frederick Tracey.

Elsewhere, there were 3-0 away victories for Skegness Town, Daniel Durkin, Daniel Trott and James Petronzion netting at Borrowash Victoria, and for Maltby Main who, thanks to Jake Currie, Johnathan Williams' penalty and Steven Hopewell, prevailed at Cammell Laird 1907.

North Ferriby came through an exciting tie at home to Northwich Victoria with a 3-2 win after Louis Kirk's opener gave the Villagers a single goal lead at the break but the visitors levelled and went ahead by the hour mark.

Scott Phillips, however, restored parity once again on 75 minutes and a Daniel East penalty sent the home side through.

And, Penistone Church defeat visitors Wythenshawe Amateurs 2-1, Daniel Howes and Charlie Baird with the first half goals to see them triumphant.

Selby Town, however, bowed out with a 3-0 loss at 1874 Northwich whilst there were 4-0 losses for Campion at home to Sunderland Ryhope CW, Dronfield Town at Cheadle Town and, in a match played on Sunday, Swallownest at Barnton.

Joe Milner scored for Glasshoughton Welfare but they were beaten 3-1 at home by Irlam and Khurram Shazad scored twice for Silsden AFC in their 5-3 loss to visitors Guisborough Town.

Goole AFC suffered a 6-0 loss at Warrington Rylands whilst Garforth Town were the only side involved in a shoot-out after their home game with Seaham Red Star ended 1-1, the away side winning 6-5 on penalties to go through.

Meanwhile, there were four matches each in the Premier Division and Division One, with home victories for Bridlington, AFC Mansfield and Grimsby Borough continuing excellent starts to their league campaigns.

Bridlington move up to second, three points behind Yorkshire Amateur, after a 2-1 win over Barton Town, Joe McFadyen's double putting the Seasiders in control by the 62nd minute before Nathan Peat's penalty brought the visiting Swans back into the game.

AFC Mansfield and Grimsby Borough beat the bottom two sides who are both still looking for their first points of the campaign.

The Bulls were 5-0 victors over Athersley Recreation, Ross Duggan's double taking his tally to nine for the season whilst there were also goals for Jordan Annable, Luke Walker and Josh Wilde.

Borough defeated Bottesford Town 2-1 after Michael Jones had given the visitors a 20th minute lead, Brody Robertson and James Dean-Atkinson grabbing the goals that sees them climb to fourth, just behind AFC Mansfield on goal difference.

Eccleshill United got off the mark with a 2-0 win at Knaresborough Town, Sumaili Cisse and Alexander Barnes scoring for the Eagles who remain in the bottom three but will be delighted to have claimed their first victory of the campaign.

Emley AFC increased their advantage at the top of Division One by a point after a 3-3 home draw with Rossington Main.

The two sides had played out the division's only goalless draw so far when they met in the reverse fixture last month but Jack Watson's 23rd minute breakthrough for Rossington stopped that happening again in what was a pulsating match.

Aiden Savory equalised and Dominic Riordan put the hosts ahead before Jason Stokes scored just before half-time to see the sides go in at the break at 2-2.

Stokes' second and Rossington's third on 62 was quickly levelled by Samuel Pashley to make sure it was a point apiece once more between these two sides.

A Jack Bowskin brace helped Brigg Town to a 3-1 win at Armthorpe Welfare to move the Zebras up into fourth, James Osborne with their other goal whilst Adam Lee had netted an equaliser for the home side.

Hall Road Rangers are now ninth after their 2-0 victory at Retford FC who drop to tenth, Chris Murray and Richard Medcalf on the scoresheet.

And, Worsbrough Bridge Athletic netted twice in the last ten minutes to snatch a 2-2 draw at East Hull, Sam Agar and Ben Donoghue with the strikes after Ali Aydemir and George Harrison had seemingly given the home side all three points.
