Morris resigns as Briggers boss

4th October, 2020

Toolstation NCEL Division One side Worsbrough Bridge Athletic have announced the resignation of manager Lee Morris.

The news came after Saturday's 3-2 loss at Harrogate Railway Athletic that leaves the Briggers at the bottom of the table without a point in their opening four games.

But, the club say that their position was not a factor in his decision to step down.

A statement on their website said: "It is with deep regret that we announce that Lee Morris has resigned as Worsbrough Bridge AFC first team manager for personal reasons. These reasons will remain between Lee and the club.

"It is important to stress that Lee was under no pressure despite the team's disappointing start to the season and he retained the full support of the board and we have tried hard to keep him at the club.

"Lee was appointed Briggers boss almost three years ago and can look back on his tenure with pride after helping to keep the club in the NCEL in his first season, followed the following season by a seventh place league finish and semi-final in the Sheffield & Hallamshire Senior Cup before last season was expunged."

Chairman Mark Booth said: "Firstly, I am disappointed that Lee has resigned but fully respect his decision and want to place on record my thanks for his considerable effort and work.

"I have enjoyed a fantastic relationship with Lee from day one and that is still the case. During his time in charge, he has brought a style of play that has been entertaining and helped to bring back supporters to the club.

"His record will stand up there as one of the best in recent times with a notable seventh place league finish, the best in over twenty years and last season's memorable run to the semi-finals of the Sheffield & Hallamshire Senior Cup.

"As a manager, player and most importantly as a man he has been superb for our club, not only contributing on the field but being an integral driving force away from the field as we looked to drive our club forward.

"We part as friends and Lee will always be welcome at The Pinto Property Stadium. On behalf of everyone associated with the club I want to thank Lee for some fantastic memories and wish him all the best for the future.

"Our search for a new manager starts immediately and we will be looking to appoint with East Hull away at the forefront of our minds next Saturday.

"We would ask any interested candidates in the first instance to either contact us via the following email - wbafcchairman@gmail.com - or via our social media channels."
