Forgione takes charge at Worsbrough

7th October, 2020

Worsbrough Bridge Athletic have announced that their new manager is former player and captain Luke Forgione who returns after a spell in charge at Houghton Main.

The club moved quicky to appoint a new boss ahead of Saturday's Toolstation NCEL Division One trip to East Hull following the shock resignation of Lee Morris at the weekend.

Chairman Mark Booth explained in a statement on the club's website why they have picked Forgione: "Luke has made no secret that Worsbrough Bridge AFC is a club he wanted to manage having been a player and captain here and we are naturally excited about the future.

"The board met to review what was a high quality group of applications and we collectively agreed that Luke was the right person for the job."

Forgione will be joined by Gareth Hunter as his assistant manager and James Ritchie as first team coach.

Booth added: "We are also pleased to welcome Gareth and James to the club and look forward to working with all three lads and look forward to a successful period under their tenure.

"I hope that our supporters will get behind Luke and the players in the coming weeks and months and support us in numbers and I am sure together we will enjoy some good times together.

"On behalf of the board of the club, I also want to thank all the applicants that took time to express an interest in the club and wish them all good luck for the future."

Forgione said of his appointment: "I am really pleased to accept the role as manager of Worsbrough Bridge AFC, a club that means a lot to me, having played, captained and previously been in a coaching set-up of the club. I just couldn’t say no.

"I've not hidden that I would love to move into Northern Counties East League football and was conscious of taking the first opportunity that arose for me, however I couldn't turn the club down.

"I'd like to thank Houghton Main for the opportunity to manage them, it's a fantastic club with some great people and platform for any aspiring manager.

"I cannot hide that I’m really happy to be back 'home' and I am motivated and passionate with my staff to continue to build on the great work done by Lee Morris and start to push the club back up the league.

"I want us to play an attractive style of football which will be entertaining and intense and try to make The Pinto Property Stadium a difficult place to come and get a result.

"I want to thank the chairman and the club for the faith they have shown and for the opportunity to manage the Briggers.

"I aim to repay that faith on the pitch and look forward to seeing some familiar faces soon."
