East Hull to become FC Humber United

16th February, 2021

Toolstation NCEL Division One side East Hull will be changing its name to FC Humber United from the start of the 2021/22 season.

Under the banner "New club, new start, new vision", the club say it "has been formed with the long term aim to become a true part of the football community of Hull and the Humber region."

A statement released at the weekend added: "We are not just a football club as we aim to serve the community and engage with as many different organisations to enhance the sports and personal development of people at all age groups.

"Having recruited a strong off-the-pitch team and a highly ambitious playing squad, we will begin upon the commencement of the 2021/22 football season.

"We look forward to welcoming you to following our journey."

Club chairman Richard Smales has also commented on the new chapter for the club, saying: "It is a tough time for everyone right now with the continued lockdown situation and the continued threat of COVID-19 impacting on our lives on a daily basis.

"However, it is during this period in time which has given myself and fellow club colleagues the opportunity to plan, develop and bring to life a fresh look for the football club in preparation for the 2021/22 season.

"Lockdown 3.0 is where FC Humber United has really come to life. I am extremely pleased with the outcome and want to thank all behind the scenes at the club for their input and assistance in creating a truly professional football club brand and appearance.

"We have set the standards high and will now continue to reach these high standards and move to the next level in the future.

"Football in Hull and the Humber region has many years of history, we are now part of this history and will work extremely hard to fully engage with all communities within the Humber area.

"We are not just a football club but much more as we are also going to be launching our own Community Foundation alongside an Academy in partnership with United Football Academy & Brighter Futures in the coming months.

"Having Mark Maspero as first team manager, we have a highly experienced and qualified football coach to lead our on-pitch progress.

"With Marc Brown on board as director of football, we are in safe hands as his passion and enthusiasm to achieve success is evident to see and the perfect link between the football department and boardroom.

"As a club we have recently brought in Adam Shire to manage our commercial and marketing activities, Adam is another huge part of the football club moving forward and once again brings with him plenty of experience from both non-league and professional football clubs.

"Finally, a quick update on our ground for next season, both myself and Marc Brown have spent many hours looking at plenty of possible site locations.

"We initially identified ten locations - following closer inspection this was narrowed down to three strong possibilities and various discussions have taken place with each location.

"We are now well down the track in terms of negotiations with one site location and the finer details are being put in place for completion in the near future.

"We are all looking forward to football returning in near future and cannot wait for the start of 2021/22 football season."
