Dodsworth returns to Handsworth
25th March, 2021
Handsworth have announced a new addition to Russ Eagle's management team, but it is an old face for long-term fans of the Toolstation NCEL Premier Division club.
Jason Dodsworth, who had a spell in the Ambers dugout alongside Mick Godber and Dean Bamforth in 2017, will join Russ and fellow assistant Aiden Spowage as the club prepares for the 2021/22 season.
Dodsworth is an experienced NCEL manager having most recently had spells at Nostell Miners Welfare and Maltby Main whilst he also had a long association with Athersley Recreation where he was instrumental in promotions and a Sheffield & Hallamshire Senior Cup win at Hillsborough in 2014.
Eagle said of the addition: "Jason brings a wealth of experience, desire and ambition to the club.
"He's hungry to get back in the game after twelve months out for personal reasons and we're really happy to get him in the club early as we begin planning our 21/22 season.
"Everyone who knows Jason knows he's vocal, opinionated and he ruffles feathers... He sounds a bit like me!!"
Dodsworth added: "I'm really excited to join Handsworth - it’s a club I’ve always had the utmost respect for and I’m ready to get going again.
"The work that has gone on in getting the club back to Handsworth is extraordinary and the pitch and facilities are some of the best in the league, if not the best.
"Hopefully, the management team can bring some excitement on the pitch which will keep the fans coming through the gates.
"From the junior section to the first team, there have always been some great players and I want to be a part of bringing the young lads up to the first team."
Meanwhile, James Kay has decided to leave his role as Handsworth's first team coach and the club have placed on record their sincere thanks to him for all his efforts and hard work, and wish him well in his next role.
