Halifax Handed Step 6 Lifeline
22nd June, 2008
The KoolSport Northern Counties East League will be prepared to offer Halifax a lifeline if their bid to join the UniBond League falls through.
The debt-ridden Shaymen have been provisionally handed a place in UniBond Division One North, but have to provide assurances over their financial situation to the league by Tuesday to get it rubber-stamped.
The UniBond have also insisted they are working on the basis that Halifax will be a re-formed club, will change from Halifax Town and will continue to play at The Shay.
If Halifax fail to get the UniBond go-ahead, one possibility is re-forming further down the Pyramid in the Step 6 Northern Counties East Division One, even though the league decided its constitution at its annual meeting yesterday.
League secretary Brian Gould told The Non-League Paper: "The same situation arose a year ago with Scarborough Athletic and they joined us after our annual meeting.
"The clubs are aware there is a possibility the FA will ask us to take a Halifax team at fairly short notice and, if push comes to shove, I'm sure we would accept them."
