NCEL Match Review #5
24th August, 2008
Liversedge head a group of five teams with a hundred percent record in the KoolSport NCEL Premier Division after Saturday's action.
Their 4-1 win at Lincoln Moorlands Railway puts them ahead of Hallam, Bridlington Town, Winterton Rangers and Mickleover Sports on goal difference.
All the goals came in a frantic second half with Kieran Corley and Luke Sherman putting them two-up before Stuart Hanson halved the deficit for Railway.
But, Sedge made sure of the win in the last five minutes through Jermaine Moyce and Sherman's second from the penalty spot.
Hallam came from behind to beat hosts Selby Town ? Rob Ward grabbed a brace, one a spot kick, in the 2-1 win after Sean Gorman had put the Robins ahead.
Craig Palmer took his goal tally into double figures already with two in the 4-0 win for Bridlington at bottom side, Shirebrook Town.
He finished the game off after Ashley Allanson and Chibuzor Chilaka had opened the scoring for the Seasiders against their hosts who were reduced to ten men during the game.
Goals in the last twenty minutes, twice from Andy Holt and once from Lee Mohammed, earned Winterton Rangers a 3-0 victory at Hall Road Rangers.
And, Mickleover Sports won 3-1 at Thackley with Dave Middleditch, Liam Walsh and Karl Ashton finding the net before a late consolation for the home side from Martin Brissett.
Dinnington Town went down to nine men in their match at home to Armthorpe Welfare in a game that saw the dismissal of both keepers.
Gary Jones scored a 35th-minute penalty for the visitors to continue Dinno's disappointing start to the season following their promotion into the top flight.
A Mark Cain hat-trick claimed a 3-2 win for Parkgate at Nostell Miners Welfare whilst Rob Branagan grabbed two for Maltby Main in the 4-2 victory at Eccleshill United.
Arnold Town picked up the points at Brodsworth Welfare thanks to a 56th minute strike by Craig Mitchell.
And, Liam Salt's late goal earned Pickering Town a point in a 2-2 draw at Long Eaton United.
The most remarkable fact of the day in the top flight is that not one home side was victorious and it now means that, out of 29 games played so far this season, 21 have been won by the away team.
There was some home glory, however, in Division One and performance of the day came from Teversal who thrashed Glasshoughton Welfare 8-1 at Carnarvon Street.
Kyle Gee-Pemberton and Jamie Smith had them two-up by half-time before Smith added a third on 47 minutes and Richard Marchant pulled one back for Welfare soon after.
But, from that point on, it was all Teversal. Gary Atkins grabbed two whilst Rob Orton, Michael Lyall and Marc Scott all got on the scoresheet.
Glasshoughton are dumped to the bottom of the table as a result and manager Dave Holmes resigned after the game.
Leeds Carnegie battered hosts Rossington Main 6-0 in the second biggest scoreline of the day with a brace for Alex Smith and Scott McGrory amongst their tally.
And, Scarborough Athletic claimed their first league win of the campaign by easily dispatching visitors Grimsby Borough, 5-0.
Craig Hogg struck twice in the first half before Scott Phillips added two more in the second period, one from the penalty spot, and Ryan Blott completed the scoring on 87 minutes.
History was made in that game with Emma Everson becoming the first ever FIFA ranked female official to take charge of a Division One match.
And, she must have made a good impact as she was applauded off the pitch by supporters.
Worsbrough Bridge Athletic lead the table with nine points out of nine after their 2-1 win at Hemsworth Miners Welfare, Lee Garside with the winner nineteen minutes from the end.
Rainworth Miners Welfare are two points behind in second as they were held to a 1-1 draw at home to AFC Emley, Andre Gordon with a last gasp equaliser for the visitors.
Gerard McCargo's injury time winner got the points for Tadcaster Albion in a 1-0 victory at Yorkshire Amateur.
Pontefract Collieries won 3-2 at home to Brighouse Town thanks to a Craig Rouse double whilst Ryan Hibbard struck in the 89th minute to earn Appleby Frodingham a 1-1 draw at fellow new boys, Askern Villa.
And, Phil Jackman's goal halfway through the second period saw Bottesford Town take all three points from Staveley Miners Welfare with a 2-1 victory.
