NCEL Match Review #6

28th August, 2008

Bridlington Town moved to the top of the KoolSport NCEL Premier Division and kept their winning start to the season going with a 4-0 victory at home to Lincoln Moorlands Railway.

They are now two points clear of the field after a full programme on Bank Holiday Monday.

Ashley Allanson and Craig Palmer put the Seasiders in control before the interval before two late goals from Chibuzor Chilaka and Alex Rhodes completed the win.

Railway are dumped to the bottom of the table on goals scored following the defeat.

Pickering Town are second as their 1-0 win at Nostell Miners Welfare kept them unbeaten, Chaz Wrigley with the vital strike with seventeen minutes remaining.

There are then six teams all on nine points with Liversedge leading the pack on goal difference despite losing at home to Selby Town.

Jermaine Moyce got them a consolation in injury time after the Robins had gone into a two-goal lead with second half strikes from Christian Fox and Sean Gorman.

Hallam are fourth despite also losing 2-1 at Long Eaton United.

The hosts took the lead on nine minutes through Alex Steadman before Adam Newton doubled their advantage on 59 minutes. Rob Ward pulled one back with twelve minutes left.

Fifth-placed Parkgate were the biggest Premier Division winners as they pummelled Eccleshill United, 6-0.

Mark Caine and Kieran Gallagher got two each whilst Jordan Beech and Reuben Wood also found the back of the net in a game where five of the goals came after the interval.

And, defending champions Winterton Rangers drop to sixth as they were beaten at home by last season's Division One title winners, Dinnington Town.

A 25th-minute David Ricardo own goal put Steve Toyne's side ahead and they made sure of the win with Ant Lynam's 82nd-minute strike to pick up their first points of the season.

Mickleover Sports drop to seventh as they were not involved in action and remain, along with Bridlington, one of two sides with a 100% record.

At the other end of the table, Shirebrook Town moved off the bottom even though they lost 2-0 at Armthorpe Welfare.

The Langwith Road side are still pointless after Liam Muirhead and Henry Sibenge converted for their hosts.

Brodsworth Welfare are, alongside Eccleshill, the other sides still on zero, after a 3-1 defeat at home to Maltby Main.

Liam Wilkin had put them ahead but they couldn't hold on as Greg Mason levelled before the break and a Matt Wragg brace in the second-half got eighth-placed Maltby the victory.

And, a Paul Palmer double helped Hall Road Rangers to a 3-2 win at Thackley as they came from two goals down to take the points.

Rainworth Miners Welfare are the new leaders of Division One after a narrow 1-0 victory at home to Appleby Frodingham.

Lee Wilkinson's 17th minute goal was enough in what was a scrappy game.

They replace at the helm Worsbrough Bridge Athletic who were thrashed 7-1 at Bottesford Town, who climbed to second as a result.

Phil Jackman, James Leech, Craig Mitchell, Michael Nicholson, Christopher Ridley and Vas Nikolaidis put Bottesford well in the lead before Dave Beevers gave Athletic some cheer.

However, Bottesford had the last word when Jackman got his second and the home side's seventh in the 80th minute.

Worsbrough are now third, two points ahead of Scarborough Athletic who climbed to fourth with a 4-1 win at Brighouse Town.

It was a tale of penalties at St Giles Road with Scott Phillips converting two for the Seadogs whilst Matthew Hoyle also struck home a spot kick for Brighouse.

The home side's goal though came as a consolation after Craig Hogg and Ryan Blott had also scored to make it a comfortable afternoon for Scarborough.

Teversal drop to fifth after they picked up a point in their 1-1 draw at Hemsworth Miners Welfare.

Marc Scott put the visitors ahead before Lee Swift equalised, with both goals in the second period.

Managerless Glasshoughton Welfare are still bottom of Division One but picked up their first point of the campaign with a 1-1 draw at home to Yorkshire Amateur.

And, they came from behind to get it after Adam Ryder opened the scoring with Rudi Coleanoo grabbing the equaliser from the penalty spot in the 81st minute.

There were away victories from Leeds Carnegie and Pontefract Collieries.

Carnegie won 3-0 at Staveley Miners Welfare with goals from Alex Smith, Kyle Hawthorne and Paul Harrison whilst a 32nd minute penalty from Craig Rouse earned all three points for Pontefract at Tadcaster Albion.

Mark Vickerage's equaliser for Askern Welfare on 87 minutes meant the spoils were shared with visitors Barton Town Old Boys in a 2-2 draw.

All those games were played on Monday whilst AFC Emley were 3-0 winners at home to Grimsby Borough on Wednesday evening.

Finding the net for the home side were Andy Farrell, Steven Kenworthy and Neil Redfearn from the penalty spot.
