NCEL Match Review #8
4th September, 2008
Bottesford Town are out of the FA Cup after an extraordinary twelve-goal thriller at Flixton on Wednesday night.
They were 5-3 up only to lose 7-5 to the North West Counties side on a night that saw the other two KoolSport NCEL sides in FA Cup action tumble out of the competition.
Craig Mitchell had put Bottesford ahead before Chris Downey's penalty and an Ashley Kelly strike gave the hosts the lead.
However, Phil Jackman restored parity just before the interval.
Dave Clements and Christopher Ridley gave Bottesford a 4-2 advantage before the hour mark but that lead was halved by Mark Bradshaw.
The two goal cushion was once again restored by Tom Atwill before Bottesford capitulated and conceded four times in the last quarter-of-an-hour.
Downey claimed his second, third and fourth goals of the evening whilst Graham Vaughan also got on the scoresheet to leave the visiting support stunned.
And, there was no joy, however, for Brodsworth Welfare who lost 2-0 at home Woodley Sports whilst Armthorpe Welfare were beaten 3-0 at Crook Town.
The only FA Cup win in midweek came from Bridlington Town who, on Tuesday, beat visitors Jarrow Roofing Boldon CA 2-1 at Queensgate thanks to goals from Nathan Hotte and Alex Rhodes.
But, Nostell Miners Welfare bowed out that night as Kevin Towey's 88th-minute strike gave Warrington Town a 2-1 win over their hosts.
Two Wilkinson Sword Trophy First Round matches were played with the away side being the victor in both ties.
Ryan Blott opened the scoring for Scarborough Athletic at Askern Welfare on 33 minutes before Richard Medcalf doubled their lead on 57.
Mel Cotton pulled one back for Askern with sixteen minutes remaining but the Seadogs managed to hold on to travel to Yorkshire Amateur in the Second Round.
Matty Howgate and Chris Harkin scored in the last twenty minutes for Tadcaster Albion who won 2-0 at AFC Emley who now host Staveley Miners Welfare.
Liversedge lead the Premier Division after a comfortable 4-1 win at Eccleshill United.
The hosts went ahead through Christopher Wood on 2 minutes but Brook Newton's 38th-minute strike meant it was all level at half-time.
Sedge then scored three in eight minutes after the hour mark from Darryll Leach, Andrew Shuttleworth and Luke Sherman to go top.
Hall Road Rangers climbed to fifth as goals from Martin Thacker, Jamie Barnwell and Paul Palmer in the first half gave them a 3-1 win at Lincoln Moorlands Railway.
They one point ahead of sixth-placed Thackley who won 3-0 at Maltby Main, with Martin Brissett getting the decisive third goal on 38 minutes.
And, Dinnington Town are eleventh after picking up their third win in a row with a 3-2 victory at Shirebrook Town.
All five goals came in the first period with Michael Blythen breaking the deadlock on 18 minutes, Joe Naylor levelling the scores on the half-hour, Gavin Allott scoring twice to make it 3-1 to the visitors and Kieren Watson completed the scoring with a second for Shirebrook on 42.
Leeds Carnegie are the new leaders of Division One after a James Russell brace helped them to a 4-0 win at home to Worsbrough Bridge Athletic, Alex Smith and Scott Lawson also got on the scoresheet.
Barton Town Old Boys are third after Lee Geraghty and Mark Anderson fired them to a 2-0 home over Rainworth Miners Welfare who drop to fifth.
An Andrew Price brace helped Glasshoughton Welfare to a point with a 2-2 draw at Pontefract Collieries with his goals either side of strikes from Matthew Wilkinson and Craig Elliott.
And, two from Ryan Damms with a third from Daniel Payne saw Staveley Miners Welfare win 3-0 at home to Rossington Main.
