NCEL Match Review #11
14th September, 2008
Long Eaton United and Winterton Rangers are through to the Second Qualifying Round of the FA Cup with three KoolSport NCEL sides looking to join them.
Michael Allsop's 24th-minute goal was enough for Long Eaton who won 1-0 at Shifnal Town whilst an Andy Holt hat-trick helped to earn Winterton an impressive 4-2 win at home to Warrington Town.
Bridlington Town were held to a 1-1 draw at Newcastle Benfield, with Andy Dugdale rescuing the home side with six minutes remaining after Tom Fleming had given the Seasiders a first-half lead.
They meet again on Tuesday along with Rainworth Miners Welfare who host Stourbridge in a replay after a 0-0 draw.
Selby Town's game at home to Guiseley was called off due to a waterlogged pitch and will also be on Tuesday whilst Pickering Town were the only NCEL side to bow out as they lost 1-0 at home to Whitley Bay.
In the Premier Division, Liversedge's lead at the top is now two points after their 1-1 draw at home to Nostell Miners Welfare. They looked to be heading for defeat when Dave Nicholas put Nostell ahead with two minutes remaining.
However, Darryll Leach struck a last gasp equaliser to earn a point for Sedge.
Dinnington Town moved up to second with their fifth successive victory, a 2-0 win at Thackley.
Danny Reet's 35th-minute opener and Gavin Allott's strike on 80 kept their impressive run going that began after they lost their first three fixtures.
They leapfrogged over Maltby Main who are now third after their 1-1 draw at home to Arnold Town.
Mark Brewster put the Eagles ahead on 19 minutes but the lead did not last long as Maltby equalised through Simon Hickey just two minutes later.
An early Paul Palmer penalty and a second from Jamie Barnwell on 58 minutes earned Hall Road Rangers a 2-0 win over Shirebrook Town to climb into fourth.
Shirebrook are still hunting for their first points of the season.
The final two Premier Division games ended in 6-1 victories for the away side.
Three from Rob Ward and a Scott Bates brace ensured victory for Hallam at Eccleshill United.
The home side took the lead through Liam King on eleven minutes before Darren Holmes levelled by half-time.
One place behind them are Mickleover Sports who won by the same scoreline at Parkgate, Karl Ashton and Tony Law both struck twice to set the visitors off on their way.
Scarborough Athletic have returned to the top of Division One after a barnstorming second half saw them win 4-0 at Staveley Miners Welfare.
Scott Phillips opened the scoring on 49 minutes before a Craig Hogg brace and one from Ryan Blott made it a comfortable afternoon.
They are ahead of Hemsworth Miners Welfare who won 2-1 at home to Pontefract Collieries on goal difference, Lee Swift got both their goals around a penalty from Adam White.
Leeds Carnegie, who headed the table at the start of the day, were thumped 5-1 at Teversal whose goals came from Andy Woodcock, Rob Orton, Jack Townroe, Gary Atkins and Kyle Gee-Pemberton.
Bottesford Town won 4-2 at home to Yorkshire Amateur courtesy of two Jamie Sherlock goals in the last ten minutes, one from the penalty spot.
Bottom side Glasshoughton Welfare were put to the sword in a 4-0 defeat at Brighouse Town.
And, Rossington Main has Lee Holmes to thank for a last minute equaliser in a 1-1 draw at home to Worsbrough Bridge Athletic.
Indeed, Main could have gone on to win it but Holmes saw an injury-time header come crashing off the post.
